Anyone have issues with your 9.5 or 12mm heavy wall puntys slumping slightly in the kiln after a stike at 1150 for 15 minutes? Anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this? I thought about placing something under the punty(fire brick?) to make the height the same as the section attached to the punty hopeing that the angle difference may help. I dont want to not do my customary 1150 strike but im tired of all my sections having a bent punty. Please somebody help this is very annoying. I have a bunch of bent puntys now I cant even use because there off access. I guess I can allways chop um up and use them for downstems.
Pre: Thank you, Matt

i'd say it's the 1150.
i have 5mil rod punties curve at 1065 if i leave em long enough with weight on em.

I have an AIM Kilns model 9169GS 120 volt front loading door with a Bartlett controller. I also have had 6mm rod bend slightly after the 1150 strike. Jiminyrootkit how do you strike your colors if you dont go above 1065?
Thanks for the replys, Matt

"how do you strike your colors if you dont go above 1065"

Strike your piece when it's done and you anneal it - w/o the handles attched.

if you ramp your kiln up really quick to a higher temp, ( I use 1487) fast then come down real quick, it will strike your colors super sick and it won't slump your handles either. no matter what color your trying to strike it works sweet and give the sickest colors possible everytime..

I disagree. I would say 1488 does a much better job.

You guys are way off. I heard Sepulworld uses 1502 for anything with clear in it. Unless it's triple blown, then it's 1507.5345320945 with a line over the 5.

Nate I do have Sunday off i will try my best to drop by the shop. I took that photography job but i will still be working at the hospital. The photographer job is freelance, so i work when i wish. Did u mean to flame strike then anneal in kiln? Or did u mean do the strike in the kiln then the anneal cycle? Because i do both flame stike and stike again in the kiln at 1150 then then the anneal cycle. I usually do this for all of my colors but escpecially the amber purps, silver colors, and rubies. If u strike to 1500 wouldnt that cause fase seperation which is bad, wright?

When I used to do a lot of honeycomb spoons thats how I did it, I turned the kiln all the way up, set the bowl ends with the honeycombs in the hot spots by the elements and wait like 10-15 min untill they would slump if left in any longer. Then I would open the door to the kiln all the way and let it cool to 900 ish or less and repeat 3-4 times. Kimax is the bomb for honeycombs too, gotta have kimax rod and tube for it.

funny story, I went into a sales shop in garner NC, and I had a few honeycomb sectioned hammers in the case. The owner of the store, A very niave lady looks at me and says "Wow, I know those are expensive, just the wait time was a week or more!" I replied "Wait time?"

She then says "Yes, I had another glass seller in here, and he was explaining how they got the honey comb, the longer they kept it in the kiln, the more defined it became, and he assured me he kept his in the kiln for 7 to 10 days, and it was no where near as nice as yours!!!"

I thought that was funny, and the sames sells man was selling heavy wall raked stringers, but charging her $15 wholesale saying "Yes these are double blown glass" . I won't mention the blowers name
