Yo

I got the new flow mag today and on page 43 there is an ABR add for HA torches. The picture show the 4 torch, the 40mm, 50mm, 60mm and then a smaller one that would like like a 20mm.

anybody know what that is?

I think it's a 25mm - I saw one at Winship the other day. Looks pretty sweet, and I think the knobs configuration was different than the larger versions as well. That's about all I know...

No, I also saw that after going to that website trying to find more information on the other torch.

The torch looks just like a HA 40mm but only half the size.

it's probably a 23mm I have one but it's set up for hydrogen only... I'm not sure why I have it... but yeah...

if you're getting a herbie, at least get a 40mm one!

sweet, tell us more.

I was wondering about hydrogen. I was just going to make a post asking about it. The guy where I get my oxygen asked be if I wanted hydrogen. I didn't know if we used it in glass.

So why is your torch setup for hydrogen? any + or - to using hydrogen?

I scanned the photo in flow mag.

i believe hydrogen is used for working crystal

Mine is older, and looks a little different... I really can't tell you too much about it as I have never gotten hydrogen and it is out of tune I got the center fire to work, but that's it. I can dig it out and see how many stages it has etc if you are interested at all... I can say that it doesn't have an air option and the pic up there doesn't either. so perhaps they are the same. My plan was to send it in and then sell it, but that hasn't happened yet.

hydrogen is usually used for working quartz as it burns hotter... and cleaner so there is less chemical cleaning needed once the piece is finished.

can hydrogen be used with boro or softglass also or just quartz?

Yep it can but it burns really hot and it is expensive!!

Winship has one of the HA 20mm's set up for trying out. It is a small flame, but it looks pretty sweet. As to the hydrogen, yeah you can use it to work boro, but it's way too hot for soft glass. It's crazy stuff...there's no carbon, so your flame burns almost invisibly. Is it possible to run it through just any regular, multi-orifice glass torch or will it melt the face down?

yea it's a 20mm nice for medium work but love my 40

Is it just me or do all the HA torches look like some kind of nazi machinegun? :hehe:

I think I am the only person who loves the way the herbie looks, lol, but it does look a little " german "

The torch pictured on the far left is the 113 "Mini" 23 mm Zenit burner. Model 113/1 runs on propane. Model 113/2 runs on natural gas. Model 113/3 runs on hydrogen (meant for quartz work). I believe air-injection is available with the propane and NG models.

For those interested in oxygen consumption for its maximum flame:
When using propane, it uses 63.6 cubic feet of oxygen per hour.
When using natural gas, it uses 28.3 cubic feet of oxygen per hour.
When using hyrogen, it uses 70.6 cubic feet of oxygen per hour.

The maximum flame diameter is 25 mm (roughly an inch).

HA says that it can work up to 30mm boro tubing or 20mm quartz tubing.

ETA: I tried to find out how much the 23mm costs. GM Associates has a 23mm listed, but to call for the price. Winship has a 20mm HA that looks the same. It costs $1533.50.

hydrogen can be use in glass work....

the desity in bottled is kinda crap ...... tons more work time in LP.

but it has its application , its very hot and very soft..... like watching one of those fabic fake fires.... but hot.....

i cant really see using hydrogren except in small hand torchs due to price..... and cost of running....

Why does teh oxygen use go down so much with teh use of natural gas anyone know ??

yes abr but we highly recommend you using the 40mm!!!!!

more robust flame and better design!

thanks

was pondering the consumption figures myself.
nat gas burns cooler then propane... and molcure size of it is different (smaller i think) so maybe it just needs less oxy to get a more complete combustion.

maybe one of the mr wizards will answer this.
