A little late, but someone back in Feb, was talking about valentine pendants, and here is one I made. It was my first try ever and is made with elvis.

Real nice shape and your loop looks killer.

Are you sure thats not just the first one that you've SHOWN to us?:D

Is that all the same Elvis? I did not know it was a striking color, are all reds strikers?

You can't see it, but the part that connects at the back of the neck is also a little metal heart, I picked up a baggy of them at a bead shop.

Thanks to all for saying it looks great, I am never happy with any of my work, but a lot of people (not just on this board) seem to really like this heart pendant, I even had one lady say she would pay $20 AUD ($15 USD) for something similar, I was blown away, figured I would get $10 AUD ($7 USD) if I was lucky.

That was the first and only heart I have made, I just heated up two gathers of elvis and mashed them into discs, attached the disks and the pulled them togeather to make the bottom of the heart. It is all the same elvis, I did not strike them in the kiln (as I can only take my kiln up to 1000), so that was how it looked while I was making it, the colour of the pendant is the exact same colour of the rod, it doesnt need to strike. I think it might be called a self striking ruby, but I could be wrong on that.

The only thing was that I actually had to make four of the smashed discs, because for some unkown reason, the first two came out with clear edges. Elvis turns completly clear in the flame, and then in the case of the first two discs, after I smashed them the red only returned to the center of the gather, the next two came out fine, no idea why. Might have been a different flame and the elvis struck itself in the flame the third and fourth time around.

Thats my favorite choice of color to work with besides U-glass because, of
it's flow...
nice shape and hoop... great choice for any time of year, hearts always sell...

hey, meerkat, try this: it is easier, faster, and lets your color patterns flow better to take one disc and clip halfway down into it with your shears....looks like you know how to form it from there...

good idea Gypsea, I know when you shear something one side tends to go forward, nothing you cant just flatten back into shape. I make a disk on the end of a rod usually 11mm, then after the color or backing is done, I cut the center top with a knife, and wiggle side to side to open it up to a heart shape, thats the fastest way, don't have any pics, but have a lot of them made.
