Decided it was time to take the plunge and try to live off of glass. My prodo has been selling very good and its come down to where i can make more money here at my shop than going to work at my lame go nowhere job. Im a little nervous because i just got married and bought a house and new truck. Ive been doing over 1k a month in sales just doing glass after work, i think if i do it full time i can atleast double that and still not work that hard.
I get to go tell my job im quitting in two weeks.....been waiting for this day for quite some time.
Wish me luck.

congrats and best of luck..can't wait til i'm there...
welcome to the good life brother. no more "dressing up" for work. your boss will always see things your way from now on (since it's you). i suggest buying some sort of daily planner. time to get organized. i'd wish you luck but skills are better and it sounds like you've got 'em

Good luck. Unfortunatly I can never quit the business I am in but eventually I'd love to be able to just get employees to do what I do and I can be 'the boss' (aside from the wife of course) and blow glass when I'm not directly needed :D

hey, i'm in nursing school too. i figure once i get a decent job i can afford to take more lessons and not grind out prodo all day. i really like the field, i've been an orderly and HHA for years.
Jerry, good luck. i've been paying 60-70 percent of my bills with glass for the last two years. damn, it's hard work.

good luck dood. It is real hard out there. WHenever someone asks me if they dhould go into glass I tell them to run the other direction unless you are a good saleman, period.

Thanks for the support MAtt....couldnt have done it without you. I'de rather make 30 spoons a day in my garage than work for some unapprecative asshole who is getting rich while i make miniumum wage building shit i dont give a rats ass about. Im gonna milk this for abit then head back to school next year, so i can be the rich asshole paying someone minimum wage.....

uhm yeah....it would take me over an hour and a half to make 17.50 and the insurance sucks. Matt, its cool you like what your doin, i miss doin' signs. I have been running a table saw and stapleing wood together for a year and a half. Hanging out in my garage jammin' Sublime sounds waaaay funner. If i can make this work i can get my ole' ladies insurance and be a stay at home dad. Speaking of which, im gonna go try and get some. Almost baby makin' time.

So how many of you self employed ppl do it legit? I just want to make sure i dont screw myself come tax time. Anyone got any articles or advice on owning your own business. I have been saving all my reciepts and have even been keeping track of milage for my deliveries.
i suggest finding a pro to handle that stuff. they more than make up for the expense. it's never too soon, if you make decent bank you might want to get set up to pay taxes quarterly. also keep at that baby making business, nothing cuter than a bouncing baby deduction.
best of luck, m

you never made 17.50 an hour making pipes??

you never made 17.50 an hour making pipes??
you should do that but part of the country you live in makes a difference. Of course you've got to balance all of the responsibilities that come with a studio.
I personally hate making pipes now, am hooked on making glass for old ladies with money. But I can never question someone who would rather work hard making prodo working for themselves than working for a boss who keeps all the year's profits.
Good luck with going full time.. if you have a studio and a setup you've crossed the biggest hurdle. only you know if you can bust your ass enough for the kind of money you want to achieve..if that's a factor. if you get quick and efficient and like working hours you will get rich much faster/be much happier than in any kind of $/hr job.

Have you quit your job? Do you desperately want to?

Quit your job. It is not hard. Self motivation is a beautiful thing. I can work morning noon and night or just one of the three or not at all. I can make 60 dollars or 360 dollars. I can smoke while I work. I can listen to sports talk radio or 2pac. I am my own boss and soon I will be somebody elses. Independence is key. Quit your job or else.
