View Full Version : PDFX1-A format
Digital files should be provided as PDFX1-A format, using Acrobat Distiller 6.0 or similar. Other native application files can be submitted such as QuarkXPress or InDesign, however additional production charges may apply. All fonts and images need to be included. Any placed images should be at 100% size and 300 dpi, CMYK. Note that we cannot guarantee accurate reproduction on fonts that are not Adobe postscript fonts. Additional charges may be added if the files do not comply with standard requirements

Well, Photoshop CS2 will save in PDF format, and when you do, there is a drop down menu to select the PDF/X standard that you want to apply to the doc. PDF/X 1a is from 2001-
Soooo, to answer your question, YES!
Oh, and no you don't need distiller.
who's requirements are those?

muz be somebody's...
actually, some apps that say they are saving in pdf are kind of whacked in actuality, therefore they won't display or print properly. These peeps are just covering their asses so they won't have to fuck around with somebody's whacked out file. i hate having to do that...

Illustrator and Photoshop will save as a PDF. The X1-A thing is an old file type that nobody uses any more. It is all the same thing. Used to be different, but these days a PDF is a PDF.
Hey thanks for the tips. I googled it and read a few sites but they don't get specific answers to my questions and most of the sites that popped up were actually sites that were requiring the same format for advertising and not sites to explain that type of file.
Oh and it is a magazine that had the requirements. I guess they need to update the specifics of their requirements as a pdfxi-a seems to be outdated.
