Thats something I think everybody deals with about being youre own boss.
Its easy to go to work when people besides yourself are counting on you.
What keeps me going is constantly changing what I listen to. From Howard Stern to music to books on tape. Its the change up. And If you wait till youre halfway done for a safety break you might get more done. Good Luck
i use rewards, and more rewards. make $50 -- eat lunch, make another $50 --check this site, make another $50 -- safety break, make my last $50 -- try to work somethin' out with the wife. rewards motivate in a positive way but there's also negartive reenforcement. if i don't meet my own standards i feel like a douchebag and i deserve to feel better than that -- so i work.
also, at my house, no video games before i meet the daily quota.
peace, m

even if yuur doing prodo your still working for someone elses reward. Like the shop owner that gets paid at least what you do for each piece, and all he has to do is sit there. And usually not even that, they usually have someone working for them.
So it really boils down to whether or not you want someone besides yourself telling you what to do and when. Motivation is a problem for most people I think, taking safety breaks doesnt help.

Isnt it funny how that happens Gash? I've noticed the same thing
I just work a little every day. Some days I might work for 10 hours and some I might work for ten minutes. It seems to average out to about 40 hours a week. By working a little every day when I need to I can take it easy. I've started doing a lot of research for sculptures and sketching them out so I'm needing to count that time in someway too. Its the bottom line that counts and I've come to realize that most people including most of the famouse pipe makers aren't getting rich blowing glass. So its not really about the money for me as much as it is about being my own boss. I have also started looking at the work from a diferent perspective. I'm not as interested in being prolific as I am in making a statement with the art.
I would rather have made one peice that I made a small amount of money from but makes it into a museum than having made 1000 peices that I made alot of money from but are just forgoten.
I'm an electrician on the side. My father was a contractor and my older brother is a master/contractor. Working for my brother one day a week is really cool since he lets me order mad supplies on his credit card and that is my pay. Plus I only have to work one day a week. Glass, to me, is more about freedom and in some ways about leaving something behind when I'm gone. Glass, for me, is not so much about the money but money would be nice too.
