I used a Delta for about 4 years... and recently upgraded to a DeltaMag. for the most part I use the Mirage on my Mag and have been really liking it. It has a wider range of flames than the Delta, but can't get quite as large. I do miss the delta sometimes, but mainly because of how used to it I am. I started on a national, and upgraded to the delta after about 5 months, so I learned most everything I know on it. The mirage can definately get the mid-range flames much easier, such as the phantom sized flames. Also the mirage uses less gas so if you aren't on liquid that may be an issue.
I would really consider them to be two different torches, rather than an upgrade from one another. I know many people who have mirages who wouldn't trade it for a Delta if they could because they like it's flame type better. I'm not quite there yet...

what do you make 80% of the time, 10%, 5% of the time?
if you make beads and paperweights/ big mibs, then a delta.
most other applications, and the mirage's mid-range flames and lower gas consumption are what you want.
love my mirage, after 4 years of a beth pm2d.

if youre asking this question get a mirage not a delta

Definitely Mirage. You can get the Delta or Mag later if needed. I've worked on a Delta for a few years and finally got a Phantom too for them smaller flames and oxygen usage. Lacking mid-range size flames bites when you're making non-huge pieces.
Actaully it'd be cool to have a 3 stage Delta.

I have had the same question. I think the Delta is a little bit too much torch for the majority of the time unless you are working some very large work. The Mirage is just a very versitile torch

a three stage delta would be nice, I'd buy one.

I went from Delta to Delta Mag also, get the Delta.
it has a higher resale price so getting the mag willl be cheaper later on.
And the Delta is better on oxy and is more versatile, in my opinion.

I sure do love my Mirage. I can't imagine that you'd be unhappy with it if that's what you ended up with.

when it comes to a smaller flame and saving o2 i am going to keep my barracuda. so i am mainly talking about a biger flame and enough torch to where i dont need to upgrade in the near future.

well, heres my two cents...
a phantom would be a true up grade to what you have and from what
has been said about the phantom but all that own them,
they are more economical on gas consumption...
a mirage is truly a beautifully versatile torch as well...
i helped pull a 45 foot, 7 to 10mm stringer with a mirage...
i watched and helped my teacher for 7 months,
while he put his through it's paces...
i could never see a day that i would out grow a mirage
but, who knows...
where it comes down for me in the starting question of,
mirage or, delta...
i say that if you need/can use more than the mirage, "NO" on the delta...
get the delta mag... you will have the lynx for a first stage, mirage fire
for the second stage and when needed, the third stage to melt the sun...lol...

mirage is a great choice. 10+years on a carlisle, recently upgraded to a mirage - best move I made yet.

I just got a delta a little while ago after having a pm2d for 8 years, and a carlisle before that. It's probably bigger then what I need, and a mirage would have helped me save gas and what not. The delta really uses a lot of gas when you get on it... The person I work with uses a phantom, and he and I went through a liquid tank the first week I had the torch. The heat generated from the flame is also pretty intense(along with the huge chunk of glass getting hot), so if you get this torch add a heat shield to the equation. I have that on my list of things to get, so that I don't have to use this darth vader helmet(<points at face shield>) I've been using to avoid my face peeling from the heat. I could only imagine what the delta mags large flame would be like. If I could make a torch, it would be a 3 stage delta, with the second stage being a phantom.

so with the delta mag its like having 3 torches in one? cause if thats the case that would be the best way to go ya. cause if need be i would never have to have the outer rings on? well i guess uhtil i decide i need to go that big. until then it would be like working with a mirage? if this is the case how much is a mag? the site doesnt say. maybe thats the route i should take being that it is like upgrading to every torch i might need in the future.

they're super pricey like 4500 i think, could be wrong though

Yes and yes. Here's the way I see it. The mirage is a nice size torch that can move a good amount of glass quickly. The delta elite is a little bigger. The delta mag is even bigger. It would probably be a good idea to try a mirage and delta out before even thinkin about getting a delta mag, because the outter flame on the mag is so big that you might never want to use it.

ok that is just crazy it has way more ports and I have personally owned one and its a gas waster if you ask me. I know most of you run outer oxy through the inner flame to achieve optimal performance, well with the mirage it has less ports bleeding into the center fire, hence uses less oxy when using center fire. Same goes for the outer. The delta is limited in its mid range which IMO also limits oxy conservation, when I owned one it was always almost to big of a flame for everyday use. Its a good lesson to learn how much heat to use and when more heat is actually needed. The Mirage IMO is your best bet. I have total confidence anything you could make on a delta would be achievable on a mirage. But the fact of the matter is if you want to be cool get the mag.....ok joking if you want to never have to buy a torch again due to mot having the right flame or not enough heat get the mag its the best move I ever made. Its great on gas just like the mirage and when you need to you can melt anything that stands in front of you.
