View Full Version : Hiring a photographer

So I was wondering. Has anyone ever hired a professional photographer?
What types of things do you recommend they do to get the "perfect picture" for both digital pics and slides. I doubt I'll find one that specializes in art glass. What, if anything, could I tell this photographer to get the slides that will get me into Art/Craft shows?

What kind of backgrounds?
What kind of lights?
Any special tricks to photographing marbles, faceted paperweights, sculptures, goblets, etc...
I really like light emanating from behind my glass. I also like the gradual fade from dark to light in the background. That can be added at the computer, right?

I know I should get a photo set up, but have neither time nor resources for that right now.
And I would hate to shell out a bunch of loot only to find out later what he/she SHOULD HAVE DONE. Any thoughts?

I've wondered for years if I should set up to photograph glass professionally.

I have most of the equipment, and I've studied photography for the past 10 years or so (just signed up for Art History 427: Contemporary photography, yay).... I'd love to take a few serious picture of some other peoples work.

if you're intersted I could find out what I'd need and we could maybe work out a trade or something.

PM me if you're interested (or anyone else for that matter)

I'll post some pics when I find them... you can also look at my GA.org gallery, the better stuff is the more recent set up I'm using for digital stuff.

I also have a nice 35mm set up and a professional 6x7cm medium format system for doing slides/transparencies for shows and advertisement.

I don't know dick about photography but I do know that I really liked the pictures that Marc Vandenberg had taken for him. You should ask him about it at AGI.

Oh yeah, Doug, you should be the "official photographer" for the gldg. Put a link up and everything.
