Okay, well as some of you know from my first thread on these forums that I am new to the world of glass, and am interested in getting into it, but am a little strapped for cash. Well yesterday I was thinking to myself how could I get a lot of money to get a set-up for myself.. So I came to the conclusion that I'd search through my house for something of value that is unused.

I'm in my basement when I see a small HP box.

Curious I pick it up and open it to see a processor with a heatsink attached. I didn't think much of it since processors are so cheap these days, but I was curious as to what kind it was.. Reading through the static-proof pouch, I soon discovered it was a 3.4 Ghz 2M processor.. I still don't know what that means, but I also found a part number.

SO.. I go on the HP website and enter the part number to find that this particular processor goes for 1002 dollars on their website, I got so excited I emailed my father to tell him the news. We had a 1000 dollar processor just sitting in our basement, and we were both un-aware of it's value.

I searched around and the cheapest I found of this particular processor was $642.

So now I can get my setup started and start learning the wonderful art of glasswork.

I'm so happy!

Yup, they're ranging from 950-1020 on buy it now... Though I'll probably undercut them by about $100 bucks :)

I just found out it's a server processor, so it's not surprising they go for so much.

Well it looks like you made a good find. And hopefully the heatsink is retail meaning it has the serial number on it. This means it is backed by an intel warranty. Are you sure it's good?

Not to bust your bubble or any thing . But the prices you seen are ebay are what they are going for in the ebay stores that are trying to sell them for that much. NOT!!! the price that anyone would really pay for one.
I did a search on compleated items and only 1 showed up and it sold for $90 and it had a buy it now of $100 So someone was not even worried about getting out bid on it.

Yes it's good, the static-proof packaging isn't even opened and it was bubblewrapped and encased in foam in a HP box.

And yes I would assume the heatsync came from retail, since it's included on the label with the part number on it.

This must have been just a normal processor, because yes.. they do go for around 100 bucks on eBay..

Look up Server Processor, and you'll get more of a pricing prospective. (though this considered a "small server processor")

My grandfather was moving from his house into an old people home over the winter and I was going through his basement and found an old guitar. It was made by this guy Manuel Velazquez and is worth a shit ton of money. It is just sitting in my house I don't even know what to do with it. Sometimes you just get lucky I guess.

That's not just a normal P4 cpu, it's a intel xeon server cpu for multiple cpu motherboards. It's not your run of the mill processor you would put in a home computer.

This guy knows what he's talking about... I talked to my dad and he snatched it up when he was working for General Dynamics.. he build most of their servers in the northeast.

So yeah, now I know where it came from.. haha

I built 1 or 2 servers in my time...I'm working on a multi terabyte server for my home to store all my dvd's as files to play back like a big DVR.

Do you know of anywhere where I can advertise this and possibly get it sold... i'm probably going to end up selling it for like 450-600. I mean the thing was free so I'm not losing anything.

If you ebay it be sure to put That its for a xeon processer in the main tag line. Even if you only got the $450 thats pretty good for a found object.
if it goes for more even better.

be sure to include the part number in your sales listing. Multiple cpu servers have to use matched cpus so anyone looking for one will be using the part number to find it.
