Are fine grade cadmium color frits worth buying to color a whole piece yellow or whatever? Or would the color get all messed up somehow if I poured a bunch of canary powder into a tube and melted it in. It would be a cool way to get color tube. but im not tryin to waste my money on something that wont work.

if you put too much in at once and melt it in, there is the chance of it checking. I have had this happen with cobalt of all colors. To ensure this doesn't happen you'd have to put in enough to make a light coat then repeat the process several times.

how big of tube are you tryin to make? like he said above, you might have to repeat the process to get the desired color saturation.
cadmium frit melts into the inside well but powder can trap air and leave alot of bubbles on the inside.

It won't trap bubbles if you do it layer by layer, as suggested above.
Sure, of course the powder will work for that.

What about unobtanium or neptune sparkle frits to make blue sparkle tube?

ive had mixed results with unob on the inside. never used frit tho only stuff n puffs
Adding the frit to the tube and then warming up everything in the kiln tends to reduce bubbles to nil. Be very careful not to tip the tube while working it though, 1100 degree frit on yer toungue = bad!

ya, that is a good tip. back to the cadmium thing, i've had good luck with the yellow crayon powder. you need about five coats, a really cool clean flame, and some patience. it works well enough that i use it in prodo christmas ornaments. you're working it right if it stays shiny
