Hey all,
Rex let the cat out of the bag. It's true - I finished a goblet instructional video just before the Flameworking Conference. Currently ABR and Colored Sands have it in stock with more distributors soon. (If you are a supplier and interested in carrying the DVD, please email me directly.)
I've posted a trailor on my website so people can get an idea of what is covered.

I'm always happy to answer questions and take critiques!
Thanks!

i picked up the video at ifc. very informative, good break down of information/steps required to make a nice goblet. defenitely worth owning if you plan on doing any kinda goblet work. only cc i have is that there should have been a didyium filter over the lens, would have made it easier to see heat gradients, etc. steve, is your bench really that clean@!?? the demo down at the ifc was excellent as well. keep it up....

Wow, thanks for the awesome response! It was a long time in the making - almost nine months....
Puddletown, I'm working out the details of possibly teaching at the Eugene Glass School sometime this fall or early next year. I'll also be back at Revere in Berkeley but not sure when.
Gibson's Glassworks, for me jacks are a necessity. With that said, I've seen plenty of good goblets made without them. Extra large octagonal reamers can take their place in some applications. But I love my jacks.....
Matt, everything was filmed with didymium filters. It's truly a bitch to cut out all of the glare, but we did the best that we could. Really it's a fine line between being too dark or too bright. TV quality 3-ccd cameras were used to get the best possible results. (And no, my bench isn't that clean! I had to spiff it up a bit for the camera. I do like to be tidy though.)
As I mentioned before, right now Ross at ABR and Todd at Colored Sands have the video, but it's just been released. I'm hoping that most of the suppliers will be carrying it soon.
Sincere thanks to all that have ordered the video! Also, thanks for the generous words regarding my work. You guys are great!
Misha, look for a PM from me tomorrow morning....

I use Jim Moore "cup" jacks. The standard jacks have a blade profile that is more suited to furnace work. The "goblet" jacks are pricey and don't have the versatility of the cup jacks.
Jim sells direct and also through many distributors. I believe the price is uniform wherever you go.
Thanks!

Oh... Don't forget beeswax or carnauba wax! The wax keeps the jacks from sticking to the glass. Also, new jacks can be a bit sticky even with wax. They need to be broken in and form a carbon patina before they work smoothly.

ordered my video.
are those the boro "cup" jacks or reg. furnace cup jack?
thanks for making the video, ive admired your work since i first started looking to get into glass.

The cup jacks are used in regular furnace work too, but they are great for boro. Just make sure not to use them in the flame. If you ride the top of the flame and wax often, you should be fine.
Carlo Dona makes great graphite jacks, but the blade profile is best for particular applications, such as making low bowl shapes known as tazzas. (I have/had a pair until the videographer stepped on one of the blades! Dumbass didn't even offer to pay to get them fixed!) Jim Moore makes graphite parcioffis with very similar uses.
All in all, the Moore cup jacks are the most versatile and are the best bang for your buck.
Hope that helps.

What the hell was he doing walking on top of your bench? :)

Bringing it back from the dead......
He wasn't walking on the bench. You should've seen the room before he cleaned up for the taping. haha. Does anyone know if sizelove is still teaching he hasn't posted in a long time and I'd love to take a class from him. All his info on his website is old too. Thanx if anyone knows.

He's doing a one on one class coming up soon. Which makes me believe he would be open to more of the same. If his email is on the site, give him a shout. If that's old too, I'm sure someone can get you current contact info. (I'll do it if no one chimes in)
