hey i got a splinter of glass in my thumb, any neat ideas in how to deal with it? i have been biting at it with no luck.....i think its deep
yeah thats no fun. going to have to dig it out.
Or leave it but that not as fun as digging it out. It certainly is more annoying leaving it in though.

I don't know how long it's been there? or how deep, but if you had taken a rod and got the end of it almost molting, put spit! (not water, because it rolls off) on the spot with the glass sliver. and quickly touched the spot with the rod. it would have fused to it and come out. might not work now because it's deeper. if you use a lupe and can see it at the surface it still might work. and no! you won't burn yourself since the spit forms a barrer between the rod and the skin. steam developes and the rod pulls out the glass. worked for me. but i did it as soon as it happened. i didn't wait. good luck!
i learned this from loren stump!

If there is even a tiny bit sticking out, rubber cement might help. Give it a good coat, and let it dry, then peel off the rubber cement. With a little luck the splinter comes out with it.

being in construction for 10 yr i had a lot of splinters
if i cant get it out right away, i wait 1 day so just enough infection for the sliver to slide right out, no pain no burn no booze, and no blood
i now im good to go.............
damn, you already got it? i was going to trade you finger surgery for that labotomy i need.
oh well......
peace, m
yeah unfortunately glass is not like wood splinters.
Your body will not push glass out like wood. I forget about metal splinters (body pushing them out or not) but I know a few guys that have gotten gnarley infections from metal splinters.
Hey Monkey got any pics of the new carving or the splinter?
metal eventually pushes itself out as well.
glass doesnt usually, but one time i stepped on a peice in my house, hurt like hell but i coudlnt find it. the pain went away, and two weeks later was in the hot shop and felt this sharp pain in my foot so i took off my shoes, and this huge pussy mess as on my foot! i pushed on it, and this huge peice of glass *literally* FLEW out. it was gross. and bloody.

well not that im a doctor or anything , but everyones body has a defense system , any time a foriegn object ends up in your skin or anywhere it shouldnt be, your white blood cells (if your healthy)attack the area to defend your body. the result of this action is what is called infection , the pus and crap. weather its glass , plastic wood aluminum , fiberglass, or any splinter . your body still reacts the same .
metal does push its way out, now pieces of rock never do, trust me on this, I can sometimes still feel it in my thumb.
