has anyone used this before?
any tips on keping stuff centered while it dries?

im trying to use it for wine bottle stoppers and other items that will be functional in that fashion. I have been using a two part, five minute epoxy and it seems that they have been breaking off now and then and are not consistent (others are on real good). Either the glue will not hold to the metal or it will hold to the metal and take a divit out of the piece of glass. I have been roughing up both surfaces w/ a diamond pad. I was pretty sure it was being mixed 50 50 every time and cant seem to figure out what the deal is. Only things i can think of are; the winter cold( i had a case of made stoppers in my car), debris from roughing up both surfaces, not 50 50 mix.

This hxtal is expensive, forty bucks at olympic. It says to weight each part out and then mix. What im thinking now because im going to be super anal about it being fifty/fifty is when the two parts are weighted out in seperate containers first how do you transfer 100% of part B to Part A? is it really thin like water straight out of the bottle or what?

Im Just looking for some input and tricks on this hxtal stuff and/or do you think i should just stick with the epoxy? Thanks

the best glue for glass to my knowldege is UV glue. this (to my knowledge) is the only connection that is actually stronger than the glass iteself. the catch is, your glass must be transparent, because if UV light cannot reach the connection point, your glue will never cure correctly and therefore will not stay. I reccomend Loctite 365, there is another kind (by loctite) that is better for thicker connections. :) its not terribly expensive stuff, i think i bought mine for 25 bucks...

Mellowout.... wrong glue for the application. Hxtal is better for laminating or glueing glass to glass. I'm sure you can get it to work, but for the price it's WAAAAY overkill for wine stoppers.

For glass to metal try E6000. It's much MUCH stronger than aquarium grade sealant, and it stays somewhat pliable when fully cured so that vibrations don't lead to loss of adhesion.

If you absolutely need epoxy try Devcon or Dupont in the double barrel syringe at home depot. Yeah, it yellows over time...but it's $5 a tube.

if the glued area is hidden you could use JB weld... it holds to glass fairly well.

a UV cure 100% solids resin epoxy might work also.... but it's not cheap stuff.

Save the hxtal for repair work and fine laminations. if you have a vaccum chamber and a flat lap you can make some awesome stuff with hxtal, dichro, and float glass

use the UV glue and buy a black light. take the plastic cover off the black lite, i had excellent results this way and i use opaque glass. let the black lite cure it then for good measure when its nice and sunny out let them take a sun bath i know this sounds too easy but it works.
