I wonder where in Mexico that was. I've heard that there is a long tradition of lampworking down there, and since its not too far I've been thinking about going down there for vacations and checking out some of these lampworkers.

ech, I don't know where that vid was shot, but i've seen lampers in Jaurez, across from El Paso and in Algadones, across from Yuma, Az. In my travels, I have met at least 10 mexican lampers. Most of them don't use ovens. They make the piece from one side to the other and bench cool them. Most of their stuff holds up as well. The ones i've met were all very talented.

I have never done Mario, but i've done like 5 different pokemon, all of the Pooh characters, Mickey, Miney, Pink Panther, Bugs Bunny, Daffy, Taz, Tweety, Sylvester, scooby doo, Jack skellington, and probably a dozen others. People ask lampers to do the oddest things.

i knew a guy that his parents do the kiosk thing at a mall somewhere in the midwest. half of what they sell there they get from mexico real cheap. they bring it home and slap some gold on 'em and mark them up.

The largest concentration of lampworkers in Mexico is in Tecate near Tiajuana. I've bought glass from them for many years. The Chinese are putting a hurting on their industry. Used to be that American lampworkers hated the Mexicans. One of the best lampworkers ever came from Mexico. I learned a lot from his work. I must give props to Miguel Bonilla.
