I have had in Iquiary to make Morta and pestels from boro, I was thinking like a liter sized "shot glass" (large gather on the bottom, with a inside rounded base, and just one inch rod made into a "drip" for the pestel )or morter, I get them confused) the chemist I talk too says, all he can get is pressed boro mortoer and pestels with a round lip on the biottom, that lasts 3 weeks tops, he has one that is one piece, and lasted forever, on stress crack, but he wants at least a liter, to gallon if possable. Is this doable? Any Ideas? I also was going to make a milli cane with the company's logo, and set them in the pestel (or m orter, the crusher part) and he told me the company would buy thousands for all there shops... Input? feedback?
Here is a pic of the logo, any Ideas? I have a few http://tattooedscumbag.com/images/inside_logo.jpg its pretty simple, I was hoping maybe guacamole, or a momka or pacfic boro color.. Ill figgure it out

you are going to want to make them super thick if you can. and maybe 32mm for the pestel. and maybe even have some pestels with a frosted sand blasted surface on the crushing end. (helps for grinding up tought stuff)
look around on the web for some cermic ones for examples of shapes and stuff.
also if you start making them and they take off. plan on NEEDING to get a lathe and some drag plates made up so you get a consistant shape and size every time.

Why not press them from gathers? You could use an arbor press, and carve a mold out of thick graphite. Gather a softball sized gather of 44mm, wipe the scuz off, and press it. proper annealing and it'll be fine.
They'll last as long as they last depending on what they're used for. If they're being used to compound pharmicuticals then they should last for years. If they're being used to grind enamels then their lifespan will be mearured in hours of use, which could be weeks, months, years, depending on use.
Also, you can't just define a M&P by volume... what dimensions? Height/Diameter is more helpful than a liter or gallon sized....
A "gallon" sized mortor would take a _SHIT_load of glass, 2 or 3 44mm rods at least. You'll probably need multiple cross fired torches for the gather. I don't even know if a Python could gather that much glass alone. Marcel would be someone to consult on this, he and his grew know a lot about large gathers of Boro.
Also, someone was telling me about a company that presses boro parts for the airline industry (lenses for lights and guages), they may have the facility to make the parts very cheap and then you could play middle man.
Of course, if you've got an order for thousands of these, it would probably be worth looking into batching boro and casting it yourself.

The pressing them out idea does sound like an easier route for pumping them out.
