wow thanks for all the kind words. The red is 2-3 year old Garnet been sitting in my box for ever, I think I got it at an open house so its probably an odd lot of color. One of my future plans is very large lathe created work like floor lamps, chandelier's etc. but all in due time, I'm in need of a bigger shop really, my current shop is just to small to create too large of a piece without it being a fire danger.

have you ever experimented with lampworking higher coes? i bet you could go a lot bigger than with boro, and size seems to be your only constraint.
beautiful lamp btw.
*edit* i really like the pinwheeling on the shade.

I saw this lamp in person, and the color scheme came together perfect, especially for a table lamp.
Very classy!
Fire Danger? Ha. I think you crossed that line when you brought the delta mag into the picture.
here are a pair of shots i took of matt making a lamp on the lathe

hey matt, is that a single chuck lathe you have there? i could never figure out what the use of a single chuck would be for other than doing perfect flares..... how the hell do you keep the bubble in shape? (i guess you could keep it at perfect temp and blow out round shapes?) but i dont really understand the point of not having a wheel to shape the bubbles...... sorry if im wrong but please explain the uses for a single chuck when you get a chance.... thanks, i really dig the work you guys put out also, would love to take some lessons, or watch some demos in the near future.... sorry for ranting peace

The lathe that is in my shop is a regular litton HSJ 4 1/2 bore I have one scroll chuck and one planetary, I think its is the ultimate set-up chucks wize. A friend is letting me use this lathe out of kindness but I am already seeing that it is waaay to small to do what I need to do on a lathe my first day on it and I made something to long and couldn't connect the two pieces lol. i have already flared something too big and couldnt get it open all the way lol.

Can you go into some detail on how you made the shade ? I assume you slumped it to get the shape ? I have never tried slumping but want to. How did you get the designs into the shade first though , I cant just imagine handling such a large piece of flat glass and putting designs into it, it seems like it would be very awkwarde to hold up in the torch ?

The shade was blown and flared, its pretty much almost impossible to slump Boro. Once flared i then sculpt the rippled lip with a graphite rod.

I coiled the sections off the end of an open point. The twisty sections are Pinwheels done the same way I do on my marbles. The lamp only stands about 10/12 inches and the shade is only like 8 inches wide or so. Over all these lamps are quite tiny but they are really elegant looking, creating a dim mellow mood light great for next to a bed.
