I am looking for wine bottle stopper blanks, and before anyone jumps on me I did my homework and used the search function and clicked on about a dozen different links that people gave and none of the led me to what I was looking for.

Either the bottle stopper for sale already had something attached to it, it was not a blank, thus it cost more and I would have to deal with taking off that part of it.

Or they were blanks but they had a big metal thread coming out of the top so you could screw something made of wood onto it. I don't want to drill a hole in my marlbe nor do I want to have to take a dremel to the stopper and cut off all the threaded bits. Maybe that sounds lazy and I suppose dremeling them off is not that big of a deal, but I would rather just be able to buy a bunch of blanks I can use right out of the box.

Thanks

The threaded post unscrews and you are left with a threadded hole.

I really like this, this guy made his own blanks out of glass. I'd like to give that try, but I am curious, how does the rubber part stay on the glass when you pull the stopper out of the bottle, I would think that the friction would pull the stopper off the blank and it would stick in the neck of the bottle.

Ive taken the threaded ones apart and thought about making a glass one...but after a short conversation with myself...it add to the cost considerable, if done in volume, which I do. You'd have to cut threads into the glass and now fine either the rubber or use a cork, crome is more elegant I think, it can be done though, just consider the cosy of the piece, and how much you need for it.

I get mine from weddingsupplies @ 1.69 each, as Emmett said, whatevers on top unscrews...I have a few hundred crome hearts I don't have a use for....yet.

I use the same ones as Steve and yes have got several hearts laying around too. here's someting I do when making a marb for the top -- take the top and draw a circle around it on your pad to go by and flatten what i'm making to fit the circle ,gives you more glass to epoxy to. Now what to do w/ all those heart tops ?

Sorry I forgot to put the url and I don't have any idea what it was, I did not bookmark it, it was someone on here though, so maybe they will recognize their work when I describe it. They were marlbes that on the bottom had what looked like a 10 to 15mm rod of glass, appx 4 cm long that tapered off to a point, then up where the rod and the marble met, he had put a 2cm black rubber sleeve.

I think this blower uses a 10mm rod cuts the punty off and slightly flattens it and adds the cork.. They are nice.
Here's a picture of one of them.. I bought a display rack full of them from him.

looks like a cork you can get at a science and hobby place..... fits 10mm or 3/8" just right i used them for makeshift bubblers before i got on the torch.... but how does he flatten the rod without burning the rubber? or does he spec it out than lube er up a force it over the lip?

I have seen a lot of glassblowers use the corks that you get from homebrewing companies. There is a particular rubber stopper that has a hole in the middle thats used for homebrewing. Some guy on youtube even does it with the rubber stoppers.

glasscraft sells those particular rubber ones, I had one lying around, and put it under my drill press, worked ok.

I generally use a 6mm peg about 1/2 inch long under whatever I mount, even a marb, has x-tra holding power. I've had one break and the peg stuck in the hole, but on my press, theirs a hole the right size of the stopper, so I just put it in their and hit it with a punch to crack the glass peg, then use a bit to drill it out, works well if you run into that situation.
