Ok I am talking to a graphite manufacturer. They have 4 dif grades of graphite. I have no idea what is the best one to choose for glass any suggestions? Here is the list of grades

Compressive strength: 65Mpa Min
Flexural strength: 35Mpa Min
Electrical resistance: 8.5μΩm Max
Grain size: 0.04mm Max
Ash:0.1%Max
KWB
Bulk Density: 1.76g/cm3 Min
Compressive strength: 55Mpa Min
Flexural strength: 30Mpa Min
Electrical resistance: 8.5μΩm Max
Grain size: 0.08mm Max
Ash:0.1%Max
KWC
Bulk Density: 1.72g/cm3 Min
Compressive strength: 35Mpa Min
Flexural strength: 17.5Mpa Min

I beleive the denser the better. So the 1.8gm/cm3 would be the best.

yup look at the grain size also tool makers are always touting how they use "fine" graphite

Make sure you hit up John, over at Weaver industries.

John is a great guy, uses only high density, high quality graphite, and will make ANYTHING you need, want, or wish for - at more than reasonable rates.

We hit him up a few years ago for some stock, and scraps, and since then he's sidestepped from Weavers normal manufacturing circle to include the needs of lampworkers as well.

He's a hell of a guy, and knows his shit.

Carbone of America sells there odd sizes for a great price. You have to buy 200lbs. but hey its only $3 an lb. This was a couple years ago back when I was selling tools.

Go off the grain size. The samller the grain the happier the lampworkers. KWA and KWB.

super fine grain makes it sso much nicer. I have two paddles, very different grades, and definitely a different feel to them. the cheap-o looks like shit compared to the fine grain one.

The rough-grained graphite "sweats" when it gets hot, so try and stay away from that! Annoying stuff...

Try "The Graphite Store". Talk to Vlademir. Very knowledgable and will do you a good deal. Sorry I don't have the link.
