whats the best way to make the slide part with the glass on glass fittings? do i score and snap off that extra 4" of small tubing on the male peice and do a seal with some material? or just decorate that and make it the slide? all while holding it by the small female and trying to blow into it and not have it fall out? im a little confused. thanks

make a blow tube with female joint attached to it as your handle. put a lil cermic tape (the thin kind) in between the female and mae glass joint and make your slider on the male joint thanks how we worked the male parts in sci glass class anyway

I'd use the 9.5 mm heavy wall tube myself. just take a piece about a foot and a half long and and pattern up about an inch and a half or 2 inches on the end. Melt it in and blow it out its a little tricky to keep it even at first but once you get the hang of it, its not so bad. Once youve pushed the bowl and attached the handle set it in a piece of 2x4 with a hole drilled in it so its not lying on a table and cooling unevenly.after its cooled you can score it with a scoring knife. after i used to score them id try to snap the stem off the bigger section of tube but would almost invariably end up with an uneven and jagged end where i snapped it off. Instead try scoring the glass fairly deeply and then gaetting a little spit on the tip of your finger and running it around the scoring line. After youve done this; take a piece of 5 mil rod and get the tip of it white hot. Touch the tip of the rod directly to the score line and the glass should seperate very nicely. After this is done you should flame polish the bottom of your now finished slide. It would be wise to put your finger over the hole in the bowl while your flame polishing so that fire doesnt run up the tube and cause cracking. This is a great trick for summertime because you can leave your kiln off all day long and then just batch anneal them all at the end of the day. :pimp:
