well there were 4 more before this.
The first 2 were so shitty I pitched em but the other two I traded. so they must not have been too bad.

First pics- my latest- Chillums
The middle chillum is the one that devited real bad. I poured salt on it and I must have used too much cause it left a few rough spots on it. Might try to flame that off.

Second pic the spoons. I need to work on getting all of the color melted in at the stem. there is one there that is pretty raised. I get scared of it deviting or me loosing it so maybe i will try to work that part first. I think I am doing "okay at the mouthpiece" I like the tucked in look if that explains anything there are a few that have straight mouthpieces and I dont dig em at all. On those I let it close with gravity and didnt tear any off. Way too thick and well straight looking.

Last are my favorite spoons so far. I like the bottom one that isnt fumed. The colors struck real nice. The shape is good and it even looks better in person.

Any other suggestions?

Love the color. Can't comment on technique because I'm clueless but can I say they are pretty? :D

for your firsts, the shaping is nice, personally, I'd make the heads a little bigger, and pull the stem pull out a little longer. But thats just personal preference. Kudos

nice work! like dwaine said, i might pul them out a bit more, especially the chillums on top, they need to fit between your knuckles for a nice grip. the colors are fantastic.

Those are pretty nice. These (http://www.the-graveyard.net/albums/stock/index.html) are the first pipes I made and every one sold to someone. Friends will buy even the jankiest piece and love it because they know who made it. Also any pieces that are usable but you aren't comfortable selling can be given away as 'promotional' pieces.

ooo I really like the one where you laid the color straight down the tube and gave it a bit of a twist.

yep. best shit eva.

love my cheetah though.

so stretch out the stems a bit more and blow the head bowl a bit bigger? I only have a 1/2" push. Thought it would look kindof funny too much bigger. I'll try it though.
peace out, gonna go play some more :)

for your first pieces, your kicking ass...

on the salt trick, i thought you were supposed to put the salt
into the flame and let it work like a kind of fume...???
i'm not sure on that and i thought it needed to be sea salt...???
i'm not sure on that either... someone will correct me if i'm wrong....

anyway, great work and i'm glad that we don't live in the same neighbor hood...

That was done with momka (I think) Infinity. Had a sample stick lying around. Didn't like the infinity 2 though, it's boily.

Borax, not Borox. Look for Boric Acid, aka Borax. It is easy to find in grocery stores and general merchandise places because it is used as a poison for roaches. Just hold your piece in the back of the flame and sprinkle the dry stuff through the flame so it shoots up onto the piece. It can cause some pocking, but heat up slowly with a bushy flame and slowly get hotter to work it in. Might take you some practice, but it works if done correctly. I haven't tried as a spray like you mentioned.

On your spoons, particuarlly the one at the bottom of the second pic, how do you get the different colours where its going blue, red, blue, yelow ? Are you just wrapping different colours or is there more to it.

Also, whats your frit techique, because whenever I pour frit into a tube I have a huge problem with the frit goign all the way down into the blow tube and clogging up the blow tube and it never coats evenly all over the inside of the tube, I really like how you have nice smooth, consistant coating of the inside oft he tube and a nice gradiation.

gotta run to town but I will tell you all when I get back.

first question. I basically just wrapped the different colors but I didnt wrap solid line. Kindof laid down thin stringers randomly in each section. Overlapped a bit at the end of the section with the next color.

Frit- If i am laying a few different colors in I open up the end of the tubing add a bit in there and just heat the end of the tubing until that frit sticks. Add a new color and work down a bit farther heating only that area. and so on. If I am doing the whole thiing one color I pour it in, close it up and heat slowly from then end getting that well coated and then move down the tube til I get to the blowpiece. I use a finer frit. I like to put a bit of bigger frit at the mouthpiece and the bowl area get that attached well and then put my finer frit in, close it up and work down the piece heating it all in. Just add the frit in the 25mm or whatever you are using and keep it angled toward the piece, not the blowtube. by the time you get down to the blowtube, if you are out of frit and dont have a good enough coating, pour a little tiny bit more at a time in throught the blowtube.

nice work.
for the frit i do it as follows.

get a blow tube, 12.5 heavy wall, or 9.5 heavy wall flare out one end a bit.

put a point or section of tube on a rod, no blow tube. I ussaly use 44mm heavy wall, but really anything will work. So it's basically a cup on a punty.

I have a soup ladle that a pour the frit into the tube with. don't pour right from plastic frit jar! i usally get 2 or three colors mixed up in my ladle.

ok.. so now there's frit in the tube, you have to close the end up a bit so it does'nt fly out everywhere. heat and marver at an angle.
. since the end is open you can dump out any frit that's not stuck on a plate and use it for the next one. careful it's hot. I never put a blow tube on unless i'm sure everything is stuck, i don't feel like dumping hot frit in my mouth or on my pants.

once everything is stuck, attach the blow tube. make sure you blow it out a about three times to make sure everything is smooth. if you start with large tubing you can pull that down and make 2-3 spoons from it. or one monster one that would scare any seasoned smoker.

can't you get rid of devit just by heating the area carefully with a pin point flame. i saw someone do that in a class and it worked like magic.

Hey Brandie, you're rockin'!

Nice work for sure, and I agree with the guys that the chillums are a little short- but hey, the devit looks like you etched! A little bigger head gives you a little more insulation, more comfortable size to hold, plus the longer stem gets the flame further from the fur hat.

Sounds like you're having a blast- keep it up!
