it is a vessel that is formed around a core . They are done a few ways , one is touse a bead mandrel and grade 000 (Ibelieve) steel wool to wrap around the mandrel and form a shape , for example a peanut shaped gig , then you coat in mandrel release and let dry . Take the mandrel with the blob and wrap in glass , color ,clear or a combo , and artwork then cool to remove you pull the mandrel out and remove the steel wool and release . You can use sand as the core or other things as well . I have seen a dude making a bed of sand in a shape he wants , mounds valleys curves ..... , then lays a sheet over and torch slumps , the shit is pretty cool.

I have a hard time telling whats going on in the pics , I know what hes doing so I get the picture , but those are really unclear , and there is no pic of the final product which kinda sucks .

On a different note , What the kind of burner set up is that ? I see surgical tubing for hoses , they are kinda trippy burners , who makes them ?

That was a neat demo and a really interesting lecture! Iwao Matsushima recreates old world techniques in the most amazing core formed vessels I've ever seen!...It seemed like very tedious work, he wrapped one tiny piece of cane around at a time and then marvered and went on to the next tiny piece....In his slide presentation and lecture he said he uses sometimes I think it was something like 8 torches at a time depending on the size of the piece!...also check out Chapter 13 in volume 2 of Contemporary Lampworking...whole chapter on Core-Forming
