Glass Blower Beef

We are all Glassblowers. After blowing glass myself for almost 13 years. I have seen beef. There is a lot of heated arguments and miscommunications that end up causing much suffering for the entire glass community. As Immortal Technique said

At this point I would like to take a lesson from battle rapping. As artists we excel at glass. Not English or law or what ever else they told us we had to do. We need to resolve issues through our medium. This will not only provide a fair ground for people to battle, but also improve our skill level as a community.

I offer to host “Battle Glassblowing” at Revere Glass. Where two people who have a history of beef can settle it on in a correct way, like a gentleman, through his art. (I only write he cause I figure most females don’t need this).

I could provide some basic prizes but the real prize would be to settle the beef.

I am down to Battle 3 Rip Min. who always rips on me and others. But he declined.

It's a funny concept, unfortunately bringing two people together with standing beef would more than likely end in a fist fight rather than a pair of nice goblets.

Using your venue to run an event like this, as well as including yourself and your beef, is probably not the most ethical business practice.
This thread is about to get very ugly, and judging from your involvement in previous threads, you are very aware of that.

On a side note, it does remind me of the shit talking that escalated between Bearclaw and Mike Fro, which ended in pure style like no other beef I have seen before in this community. Bearclaw straight up put Fro to sleep when he created the "Pimp" bubbler with Fro on it. If you dont know what I am talking about its on GP.org.

It was like seeing that skinny white kid from the north side finish his bboy set with an airtracks to a one handed freeze.

glassblowers tend to have big egos and it seems like everyone has gone through some sort of drama. I didnt talk to one of my best friends for 2 years over glass. Its usually bull crap in the grand scheme of things, lifes too short.

A battle would have some sort of negative aspect and would proabably create glass art that was sub par anyway. We've all been through some sort of crap where drama and ego take the high road. Just kick back and let the others rip away, no need to respond to it, you should know where you're headed by now. plus when you don't reply it make them look like they spend all there time bitching instead of creating on the torch. Revere, who the hell cares what 3 rip min or anyone for that matter thinks about how you blow glass, run a studio, whatever. Go with what you know, cause it looks like you're starting quite the lampworkers education mecca out there, and with this small community we need more shops like your's.

I call you out Beachglass... Your fumed spoons ain't shit compared to the mutant potatoes shape I have perfected. Through a diligent combination of inconsistent wall thickness and uneven heat base I have refined and defined the "wonky spud spoon". If we go out drinkin' before the match I am sure I can surpass even my best effort and probably endanger life and limb of every one in the shop. Yeah buddy!

It sounds like a perfectly good idea to me. If people were to battle with their artform instead of fists I think it would settle alot. When people bicker over shit over the internet it just looks weak. My guess is that people would not want to do that because there is suddenly a face behind argument. And the people who decline the callout cant put there skills where thei mouth is.

I have to fly over 13,000 miles in the next 5 weeks, 3 different trips I work 24/7 while my friends play, and my family don't see me. The only true competition is the competition with one's self. Externalizing it takes away from the zen of self enrichment. Improving one's self has nothing to do with the actions of others. If it becomes so important to judge your own actions and accomplishments by comparison to others, it can take away so much creative energy and mire you down in unnecessary actions.

hey everybody I just wanted to say a little somethin for purposes of clarification on this issue.
and no, this is not dustin, and I am not trolling, this is Rita up in here.
first off I think two seperate ideas and issues got muddled togeather here. The idea of a battle in glass was inspired by but does not REVOLVE AROUND dustin's "conflict" with 3 rip min. and this "conflict" is getting blown way out of proportion. just to set things straight -
3 rip min (who I have never met) and dustin never had business that went bad, neither screwed the other financially, neither talked shit on the others mom, they never had a friendship that went sour over any sort of disagreement.

that being said the idea of a battle should not have to do with "beef". It should have to do with skill level and pushing each other to be better and to grab a larger slice of the pie in the broader scope of society. thats what that immortal tech qoute was about. Like why in the hell are we fightin each other here, when theres so much more to gain by working with each other. I guess its odd to equate the concept of battling with a possitive exchange

hey everybody I just wanted to say a little somethin for purposes of clarification on this issue.
and no, this is not dustin, and I am not trolling, this is Rita up in here.
first off I think two seperate ideas and issues got muddled togeather here. The idea of a battle in glass was inspired by but does not REVOLVE AROUND dustin's "conflict" with 3 rip min. and this "conflict" is getting blown way out of proportion. just to set things straight -
3 rip min (who I have never met) and dustin never had business that went bad, neither screwed the other financially, neither talked shit on the others mom, they never had a friendship that went sour over any sort of disagreement.

that being said the idea of a battle should not have to do with "beef". It should have to do with skill level and pushing each other to be better and to grab a larger slice of the pie in the broader scope of society. thats what that immortal tech qoute was about. Like why in the hell are we fightin each other here, when theres so much more to gain by working with each other. I guess its odd to equate the concept of battling with a possitive exchange

the thing with a flame off of prodo, is that you couldnt pay my a grand to go show those people how i make my living.. see, dustin knows what i make and i have no idea what kind prodo dustin makes because he told me that he doesnt have any sort of prodo line and that he doesnt like to sell glass...

3 rip declines everything. even when someone proves to him that he was asked to do a time challenge. if u dont have anything nice to say dont say it all. i can see that this thread is going to go in circles. why do u care 3 rip. keep doing your prodo then and dont worry about what dustin is doing. and remember your the one who started the whole deal by talking trash about him and his buisness. i just dont get it. and maybe u could take some beginner classes, in marbles, in vessels, in sculpture. i dont know. but u cant talk trash unless your well rounded too. just because a pipe off is what your best at doesnt mean thats what others are best at. why dont u suck it up and do a comp that deals with making a sculpture, a marble, a heady piece, and 10 prodos. the prodos being the only thing that is timed, and some agreement would be made to where u were both making similar prodo and u didnt have to "share" your trade secrets. im just saying it looks like youve been chased in a corner to me. either put up or shut up i think is the saying.

The involved parties should state their case and remain civil. A discussion can be had where both sides have equal access to the opinions of their peers, and that's a great thing here....but keep it relevant and don't bring in or recruit others to take your side. I think people should be free to make as big an ass out of themselves as they want, especially in front of their peers.

If things get too out of hand the responsible parties should be dealt with individually - a warning, moderation, deletion of irrelevant offensive posts, and eventually probationary banning or outright banishment from the forum all together.

But I do understand that locking a thread and hoping a new one doesn't pop up is much less work for an over tasked staff... so do as you will O' forum Matron.

we're not banning anyone. while doug's method sounds nice, we can't deal with people individually as often as we'd like - it's easier to just remove the threads.

i think all of us who have been on the intardnet for awhile know that things can get out of hand, quickly online. that is why you have to chose your words so wisely. i doubt there are many of us walking around wishing we hadn't said something at some point...or stuck our foot up our own asses.
