i have a querstion about somthing you said. i believe you were talking about the flip down shades over a didy frame. did you say somthing along the lines that having to look through 2 lenses causes the eyes more stress?

the reason i ask is beacuse i wear a pair of prescription glasses, and when i blow glass i have a large philips frame with a shade 5 clip on and i am looking through 3 different lenses, usually all at slightly different angles.... i was wondering what sort of problems this would cause me?

as soon as i can get the $500 it costs for a pair of prescription boro glasses, ill buy em from you. but for now im wondering if im doing any damage to my eyes, and if so how severe it is.

You are not causing any damage by doing this, what I was referring to was the optical effect of looking through multiple pairs of lenses that are "off axis" to each other.

One pair of glasses works just fine - they are in the same vertical plane with the eye. The problem can occur when you add another pair of glasses over that. Chances are that the second pair will not be in the same plane as the first pair, and this can cause the optics of the second pair to slightly change the focus of light as it enters the eye.

Instead of a circular focus point, it becomes oval shaped. The eye can correct this if the amount of "ovalness" is small, or if it is for a relatively short time. Long periods of time will cause eye stress, headaches, but it will not cause any damage to the eye.

There is usually no problem from clip on's (unless they fit badly), they are mounted to the frame of the first pair, and use that as a reference point so that the lenses are in the same plane.

(Hey Jordan - long time no see!)
