View Full Version : What to bring...

I know there was a thread or at least I thought there was some where. I'm bringing my camping gear, tools, glass, torch and clothes.... what else?
Do I need to bring regulators? I think I can slide them in some where, but I'm flying and those stinky ass hoses will have to stay. If I don't need the regs, let me know. I don't want to beak down my torch and get stuck not being able to use it. Give us the skinny on the set up and what we should be bringing and what you will have. :D
Thanks Tom! I'm insanely excited at this point. Thank god I've got a big wholesale order to keep me busy. I'd be going nuts! :D

Please bring everything you can. There are manifolds under the benches, but unfortunately I dont have enough regs and hoses for everybody.

do you need in-line regulators or just your normal regs? Gonna try to bring it all, think i'm goin to mail my torch off tomorrow....i'm stilll nervous letting it out of my sight though! couldn't bear to go without my torch, i havent blown glass for a couple of weeks and i need to do some work! see you on Sunday!

The only regs I have are tank regs... is it a waste to bring them? I know you're busy, so I would rather have it posted here instead of having a bunch of folks calling you and asking.

Normal (tank) regs are what we need. The manifolds have recepticals just like your propane and oxy tanks. We keep the manifold pressure at 60 to 100 psi, and each work space can regulate down to normal working pressures.

Its funny, I flew from Chicago to L.A. to Brisbane Australia to Adelaide Australia back to Sydney and then to L.A. where security finally said I couldn't have my torches with hoses in my checked baggage. The more I thought about it I realized the stink in the lines is from the stink thats added into the gas so you can smell it when it leaks. Doesn't propane burn pretty clean thus leaving the stink behind?

good question. I never flew with hoses, but to blow them out through a commpressor, or at the local air fill-up station is a good idea.

One of the best ways to keep the stink down, is to cork them. The scent they add kind of builds up in the rubber. Just don't break the cork off in there. ;)

How far is it from where the torch will sit to the hook ups? I may have some short hose here... I can bag the short ones. ;)

Depending on what building and what space you're working at, the hook ups are anywhere from 8 to 15 feet from the torch.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to claim a set too... I can bring a Y and some shorties... but they prolly won't let me roll up my longer stinkies and fly with 'em.

"What to bring" resurrection bump.
I need to start my list.....

Yep,
After reading that, I'm starting to worry about the hose lines from my torch to the foot pedal. If I'm flying and can't bring mine, does Tom have extra?
Also, does anybody slackline? I think I'll bring gear for a 40 ft. line if there are trees we can put it on.

holy crap. Slackline? How cool. Good way to get your mind somewhere else for awhile.I'd like to try it if you bring the gear.
Do I need to send my torch, regs and hoses UPS to avoid this flying-with-hoses issue?
We are bringing a tent and sleeping bags, but we're gonna get a room for a few of the nights just for beauty rest and quiet escape.

The invitation package has a list of things you should bring. Regarding the torches and hoses- There are usually enough torches set up that you can jump on one that's not in use. Also, with all of the classes that go on here, many people choose to watch and learn instead of working all the time.
If anybody has any questions, feel free to contact me at any time.

don't know about quiet escape....just stayed at that hotel and the trucks engine breaking all night gives you no quiet escape....believe me it is must quieter by Tom's.

Q-tips.............a must have for any encounter with Top Heavy. Thanks for the reminder Tom, I could just see it, another year where I'm pulling saliva out of my ear for days. :D

What about an air compressor? I'm planning on bringing my Herbie 65 and it would be nice to have access to compessed air. If not, oh well. It just gives a little more control and cuts down on the brightness and carbon buildup.
What do you guys think about flying with a torch vs. shipping it? I was just going to ship it and pack it REALLY well.

if you do fly with it. DONT bring your hoses for they reak like propane and that they would not like for you to bring on the plane....I think that was a sentance...

If you're that worried about hoses, we could probably bring extras from the shop to AGI since we are basically shutting down that week anywho if everyone goes.
