After a visit to Homers and years of squiggle and dot i/o i have decided it was time to try something new. Today i attempted my first ever colored tube pull. I think i did pretty good laying down the lines and encasing in clear but where i totally screwed the pooch was doing the pull. Basically i didn't have an even heat base so the middle pulled out nice and smooth but the ends came out like shit. For my first attempt i think i was fairly sucessful, i managed to get about 2 foot of workable tubing out of it so i guess thats all that really matters. Now i gotta see if i can just make something decent out of it rather than fucking it all up.
I'll post some pics later.

Yeah, looks just fine to me.
I like to start with a longer piece of tube than what is needed, gives me a little buffer between the applied color and the blow tube/handle and also lets me pull the ends out to keep from wasting so much.
Fun stuff eh?

just reheat in kiln, pull of the little tail, do some reshaping, make a flattened knob at the bottom, and turn that waste into an abstract shaped winebottle stopper......

Well here it is. I definitely need to practice my line work, terminations and shaping but it turned out. This is my first time ever attempting a wigwag or reversal. I just started to get the feel for the wig wag then i ran out of tubing. I think i will practice with clear until i get them down better.

It's definitely not one of my best pieces but it was definitely good practice.

Good job bro, did you tube encase it or use rod? Looks nice and that isnt much scrap at all for your first try! I always save the end of the pull (scrap) in a drawer so I can go back and look at them for color scheme ideas.... Next time you come over I will show you how to make them bigger! You ready for the Max Polin class?

Thanks for the kind words guys, it is sooo fun trying new stuff, i have been locked into production mode and very rarely do i get out of my "comfort zone" because trying new stuff ends up costing me money.
Homer, i didn't have the right size tubing to encase with so i used 12 mil rod, i trapped a few air bubbles but being i've never tried encasing anything before i think it went pretty well. You sure made those wig wags look easy. On the next one i want to try and make my terminations a lot cleaner and get those wig wags tighter. It's tough on that Maya, the center fire is pretty wide, i think if i had a finer pinpoint flame i could get more of the "W" look rather than the "U" look.
Sevenduce:I've got an extra bench stop by whenever.
And oh yeah, I am SUPER FUCKING STOKED about that MNP class!
