We recently did our yearly Hempfest here in northern Ontario. We have done this event yearly for 7 years and as the crowd has grown so have the people that come expecting a custom piece from us. End result of that is that this year the only way we could keep up was to work 24/7 I did days and Al did nights.
I took over one morning from Al and before I could even get my quota of coffee was swarmed with do this, write that, color this ...... I jumped on the torch and ....what can I say I was having a bad glass morning............blew up a piece and decided I needed a time out. I was sitting having a smoke and a couple of people came up to the booth ( sidenote..........I don't look at height, weight, color, eye placement ....when a person approaches..........no predjudice here normally) These people looked over our work pointed to a 20 buck spoon and said rather derogatorily "that looks like a 5 buck pipe" I said (snapped? ) " they are all $20" after a few second pause I bitchily added " if you want a 5 buck pipe buy an indian pipe" Getting no answer I looked up and low and behold the people standing there were native americans. Since both of my feet were firmly lodged in my mouth I didn't even try to explain I meant east Indian lol Lesson learned imports affect us in other way than the wallet lol

*shrugs* I heard Hempfest was a bomb this year anyway. Never been, and from what I've heard about it over the last few years, I don't have a lot of interest in going at this point either. But yeah, and assuming you're white, most of them would take it as an offense whether you meant it to be or not, just for that reason alone. Racism? You bet. Glad I can pass off as just about any brown-coloured race there is, as well as a dark white person. :D

I was waiting for you to say when you looked up "you saw a red dot on their foreheads", lol. At any rate, just say "made in india, or where ever" and you'd be so correct...but as luke said...."imported" would just about cover everything without insult. We've all been dog tired & have had somebody step on our last remaining nerve, at one time or another, so I definitely understand.

Years ago I was having to deal with some "biotch" under the same conditions and when I lost my cool (big time) I asked her if she'd ever done anything with her hands?...other than write a check? Usually I'm so friendly and accomodating to my customers, when that happened I knew I needed a break from dealing with the public for awhile...I'll be doing a show in Dec after a 5yr hiatus...I think I'm ready now, lol.
