I just got back from the MNP workshop at Revere Glass. I would like to start by thanking Dustin and his crew for having me as well as Max for putting up with my hick ass the entire week. I learned a ton of new techniques but most importantly i learned to slow down and take my time. As a production worker i find myself rushing a lot to get as many pieces done as i can during a day. Watching Max work was really inspiring, the dude is so meticulous about every weld and seal he can leave large pieces out of the kiln for very long amounts of time without worrying about cracking. I highly doubt i will be making anything as big as max made anytime soon but i can definitely take what i have learned from him and incorporate those ideas into my own work.

Thanks again to Dustin and his crew and a HUGE thanks to Max for the very inspiring workshop!

I had a great time, who knows maybe after my kid is a few years old, me and the wife might make it back out to Berkeley to visit.

Thanks again!

cool gash, sounds like it was a good time out there! I heard that MNP runs his gas at very low pressures for the delta, I would imagine this is to build a slower heat base and heat things properly, I cant wait untill i can afford some lessons from the man himself!

I guess i didn't ask about the pressures he runs because i don't have a GTT but after seeing the Delta in action I really want one.

He made a BADASS double bub which took him 4 days. The dude is not only a sick glassblower he is very intelligent and all around cool dude. You can tell he blows alot of glass by watching him work, he's like a machine.

I have a ton of pictures, I will post a few of them, but out of respect for MNP I will not show any of his secrets.

im not 100% sure but when jerry described it to me it seems alot like what people are doing with the press, but with out a press just good ol fashioned muscle, but thats just a guess i wish i was there to see it for my self

i just assumed that rod built meant it was coiled color sections put together then reversed and pulled into a tube. you'd then have a tube you can work like any other colored tube. i've done it a couple times and it works good, but mine havent looked anything like max's. am i right?

ya thats one way to do it, but im pretty sure when jerry described the process to me it was alot like using a press, he starts with large diameter clear rod makes a patty, covers with color, tacos the sections, puts them together and pulls down to the size he needs. if memory serves me right thats how he described it.

Thats exactly how he did it, you have a good memory VED. Of course theres more too it than that, but I'm not going to share all of Max's secrets, that dude is rad as fuck.

interesting i got a sheet of 18" x 24"x 5mm plate boro years ago to lay color on but never tried it. right now i take a 4 inch section of 50x7 and lay color on in the open end filling the front half thats as far as i can get it in and keep the color molten and burn the silver off.close it up blow that half into a hemisphere flip it over do the other half. reverse that ball and pull into a tube. i get really nice silver colors and think i could pull alot of tube with much larger heavier tube so the section is as wide as long so its as close to round not oblong to reduce the amount of shaping needed to get a ball.
