It's quite possible granite or marble came from Italy, shipped to China, cut into slabs and polished in China.... Its still Italian granite or marble because of its country of origin...

Just the same as if the Italian granite or marble was shipped to the USA in blocks, cut into slabs and polished here, it still is Italian.

Incidentally some of the Brazilian granites are awesome in color and patterns...

I had a shop where I was doing a car restoration and next door was a counter top manufacturing operations and I spend time helping to unload lots of different granites for source (labeling) all over the world.

from the link, emphasis is mine:

Our factory in China brings in popular raw marble granite sandstone onyx and travertine materials from quarries all over the world and maintains strong relationships with suppliers in China, India, Spain, Italy and Brazil. We make every effort to meet ever challenging demands by maintaining the highest quality inventory with the largest selection while at the lowest prices.

Dale hit it on the nose... the granite is quarried in Itally, roughed out in China, and finished in the US (or china, depending on price probably, but you get what you pay for)

When I was in Kansas I saw all thes big granite rocks that had been laser etched and the tag said "Stone from China, Etched in USA"

It makes you wonder tho... how is is cheaper to buy stone from China, have it shipped here... than it is to produce it here?

*shrug* maybe they're using it as ships ballast? but then... I thought they used jeans and plastic goods as ballast these days :P

Elberton, GA............ IT's the Granite capital of the USA. There are hundreds of companies in Elberton that etch stone.... some big, some huge and some really small. I'd use one of these companies. Since there only an hour away.

I used to work in a place that made marbel and Granite counter tops. The stone came form all over the world. and was useally refered to by the place it came from.
italian marble/Granite
brizilian marble/Granite
Vermont marble/Granite
Gorga marble.
others where just refered to by the stone type.
but all most a;ll of it is quarried in on location. sent some where else to be slabed and polished.
but it all depends on where it come from and what stage its bought at.
some places do mothing but cut and polish slabes then sell the slabes to places that make counter tops and what not. tiles on the other hand are useally quarried slabed cut and polished closer to the source or the stone. but some times you can still get the same italian marble from china, italy, usa
the big difrence is price and consistancy or the patterns in the stone.
but italian marble is still italian marble no matter where its being cut and turned in to a finished or semi finished product.
You can tell the difrent types apart from one anought if you have been around a lot of stone.
gorga marble and italian marble are both white and thats about the only thing thats the same about them if yo take a real close look.
so its not easy for any one to misrepresent the type of stone or any thing like that.

most green marbles are vermont green verdy (no sure if spelled right) one color of it is some times referded to as jade verdy. but thats just that the color is jade. but it comes from a light cream colored marble with white veins to a dark almost blakish green with white veins. and any where inbetween.
