I'm a noob, but I lurk here more than I do on other forums...I'm really a noob to tubing so I'm soaking in the learning without much talking. I just started lampworking in June of this year. In any case, if you want to see some stuff I did recently, here is a couple of mibs:
First three are my second attempt at a galaxy mib Front/Side/Back
Second set of three are my first attempt at a sea floor mib Front/Side/Back

we got better haha...at least a bit :)
ill put some pics of my new stuff in the pic section. i'm about a year in, but really only a few months of trying to make a living off of it. i also find that when i get good at something i hate to move on to newer stuff cause it makes me feel all rookie again, but thats part of the fun right??
JJ nice mibs man, the galaxy looks killer...and a great backing too!

Thanks Beach, I appreciate it. My wife took it into work and it stayed there with an art teacher. I'm having seperation anxiety lol, it was the first mib I've sold. It was my second attempt at a galaxy. I'm still working on back designs, sometimes I feel like doing em, sometimes they just get frit lol.

Im new. I remember this exact time last year looking for a torch and blowing all the money I saved up over the summer on all the stuff I had to buy. Totally worth it though. I broke even recently! and that included the chunk for the phantom.
definitely could not have done it without having this place to learn from.
comin up on the one year mark in a month or two. I know there are a bunch of people around the same time frame.

Yeah, me too when you consider how long Milissa has been at this.
So this scenario begs this question in my mind.
Is it better to see a ton of beginner photos... or better to see what the more advanced flameworkers are doing? In my experience, and Milissa's it seems that far more comments and views go to the new flameworkers because of controversy over technichal knowhow. Rather than, an evaluation of the more accomplished and creative work of say... Mickelsen... tons of responses are generated by pipes that are maybe on the way, but by no means completed pieces that are commercialy viable. It's hard to keep either faction motivated to post when neither one accomplishes the goal of finding their real value to the viewers. Just a thought.

Here's my thoughts:
Most noobs get into lampworking to make pipes, which is not a beginner thing.
They waste time and money making janky pipes, while bragging to their friends that they make bank down at the head shop. After getting low-balled a few times by shop owners they cave in and piss off.
Well, that's what happened to me, except for the cave in and piss off part. I'm still here, defiantly, three years into boro. I haven't made a pipe in more than a year.
Good thing, I sucked at it.

what do you make now that is easier than pipes? i've been lamping since feb and i have the iso chillum down fine (heh finally) and i don't even have the greatest size tubing. now spoons, well i need to practice a bit more but i'll have those down as well, i am not caving in any time soon. and i love pipes too much to stop

i'm only two years into this expression of art...
most all i've made for the last one and a half years is
functional art that looks poooppy and krunked up...
but, every piece i've ever shown, i've sold... my poop
is loved buy others, no matter how much i hate it...
i don't deal with shops at all... i know that narrows my
sells a lot but, i still sell small amounts to some little
mom and pop stores and i have a lot of friends...:D
one friend has like, almost 20 pieces and i can go and visit
my little darlings any time i want.... no matter how poopy
one of my pieces turns out, it still operates like a loaded
log truck with no breaks on a long hill...:chilling:
and everything that comes from my flame is a child of mine...
no matter how ugly it is, i still love them...:o:

I'm still very much a noob and I don't even make pipes. Thinking of trying one just to say I've made one but otherwise....eh.
I've been busy working on my round glass balls by making a hiney load of ornaments to sell at the local craft fairs this season. I have one that I made last year when I was doing them simply as ornaments that cracked so I didn't give it to anyone. Compared to what I made then and what I made now, I'm doing much better.
My latest challenge to myself is crochet hooks (one of the fairs is at a nursing home). Those little buggers are tougher to make so they function correctly than you'd think.

i will always be a noob! cause i am always looking for something new to try! first year or less i made mostly pipes, however at the same time i was making beads, then moved on to pendants. then moved on to ornaments with the season, and never looked back. i started trying my hand at sculpting and as soon as i did that. i had the need for more equipment. now its a never ending battle to obtain the equipment and skills to produce what ever i am striving for. so i feel 10 years down the road, i will still be on this website. still asking questions. unless, technology changes and the gldg turns virtual reality or some shit. NOOB 4 life peace

Definately a noob right here. I started lampworking when I got an internship at Diablo in Roxbury last January. I took a bunch of basic classes and had a ton if free time in the flameshop. I made marbles and pendants mostly. I started making hollow implosions and playing with tubing a little more. I've been making jars and a few pipes. Mostly coilpots, and I tried a reversal just for kicks, and it came out looking diesel. I need to stick to the basics right now though and pull a bunch of points.
I'm at Hampshire college right now, which has a little flameworking shop maintained by students, and all the glass, tools and gas are provided, so I'm psyched to make a shitload of glass. Don't have a camera though, maybe I'll improvise

i'm a year old noob. enjoy all the glass. just bought a butt-load more of momka colors and some dichroic alchemy dichro sheets. working on marbles more, along with beads and unique pendants. my wife is my biggest fan. have tons of books and dvd's to learn from and i want to take some classes this next year. i didn't make it to eugene rain's shop this summer like i wanted too. time and distance played out. i use an old carlisle cc with footpedals and have a newer national 8b that i don't use anymore. i love beads too. so much for us to learn. i'm a perenniel student and learning all the time.
