I know folks are getting their new issue. I just found out that they pulled that sticker crap on the cover again(Thanks Dogmaw. Good head up!). There isn't anything I can do now, except call the printer Monday and tell them they stickered my favorite cover. Oh by the way, it is my favorite cover. JAG in da house.
Oh yeah, baby. This is the issue it took 5 years to get to, pipes on the cover, pipes in the centerfold, Bob Snodgrass tribute article, All 3 Emerging Artists B. Ratcliffe, Nate dog and Darby, and done with great respect.
Thank you to everyone in the community, especially those artists that are pushing and defining our art to the naysayers. We could be one of, if not, the first self-sufficient art movements since bauhaus(don't slay me, not a historian).
When we started the Flow, our first platform was to show pipes as art, boro, boro, boro. I guess when we got into it, my eyes got opened up to the limitless of lampwork(Albuqurque 02, Thanks Louie), not just pipemaking, but I never forgot the issue that I wanted. In 2002, it just wasn't the right time. Black Monday and all. This issue, with the pipe on the cover is being mailed out to over 400 collectors, museums and institutions such as the Rakow, Guggenheim, Selman, Pismo, etc. Pipemaking artists are being contacted and will continue to be pursued by fine art galleries.
Push, push, push!!!
I urge anyone down to try a little game I play(edit: I have done this no more than 3 times with "appropriate" pieces. It should be said that I am not actively pursuing a career in fine arts, otherwise I would probably reconsider my actions). Next time Niche or some cool art show is jurying pieces. Submit an artful pipe(u know, not triple blown flipawigacello), call it a blown sculpture, who cares. I have been accepted to two shows, but then politely received my pieces back after they realized the sculpture had three holes.
Regardless of if and how or when you participate,
Viva la Revolution!!!!
Peace

Those are pipes on the front?!?! Hmm, now that I look I guess they are. I haven't had a chance to read it yet but I thought those were just three pretty spiffy non-functional sculptures.
Pretty nice stuff :-)

People with subscriptions always get their magazines ahead of us regular schmucks. It should be on the site and the shelves before too long.

Will you did it agian another great issue of the flow and you finally did a tutorial in your own magazine. I am also glad to see Milon in another issue doing a tutorial even .Mad Props Flow Magazine I have seen this magazine evolve from volume 1 issue 1 and I must say this magazine is one of the best things that ever happened to the glass working community . Thank you everyone that puts hard work and energy into creating a great resource for all of us .

Hey Im Salt the article in the centerfold was written by me , however it wasnt supposed to be published. Honest mistake but the article that will replace it should shed some light and says what I realy feel. Please read it.
Peace Salt

Let me start off by saying that Salt and I are good friends. The honest mistake was the responsibility of both parties. The first text was reviewed and thought to be rough and not refined. We were already at deadline and extended it(to my regret) to allow for a redo of the text. The text came in right as we were going to press.
I do not want this to reflect poorly on our editorial staff, which works incredibly hard to making sure that everything is right. I hate that it happened, but it was more circumstances then mistake. We always strive for perfection, knowing we rarely achieve it.
P.S. Clinton is overall my favorite active glass artist(any apprenticeships open, Clinton?), now that Billy Morris is "retired". Glassline beat me to the punch with the cover, so I will respect that and wait for my turn. Believe that I want to feature Clinton Roman.
Thanks,

Pakoh,
The whole issue is not only pipes. We represent the entire community of hot glass. It was themed "Functional and Ornaments", in which I took the opportunity to present pipes often, and sought to present the movement in a positive way. I love functional glass. I have never gotten into much non-functional other than marbles(which are to cool, no place to hide "bage").
Article in this are:
