Nice! If I ever get another digicam (mine bit it big-time while we were moving) I want to do something like this with my sculptures! I did something similar with my avatar, but I like the idea of spinning for a 360° view.

Thanks everyone, i think it takes about 20 min per marble, to take all the pics and then put it together on the comp then upload it. i made a new page with a few more

i really wanted to see if i could put these pics on esty.com or something but they are to big to fit and when i got them small enough they wouldnt work :( but i did put a marble up with a like to the dance. i feel like its hard to get a real good idea about a marble unless your holding it in your hand but i think this helps.

Nice - I really like the middle one in the second row, where the opal looks to float all around as you rotate...

If anyone wants to try this, Adobe ImageReady is best for doing an animated GIF. It comes with all of the newer versions of Photoshop.

Just make a new layer for each frame, and then select: "Make Frames from Layers" in the animation palette. Then you can going to the bottom of each frame (or all frames at once) and set the hold time for the given frame(s).

I have a Flash module I made a while back which loads all of the images from the same directory and basically creates a QuicktimeVR-type thing. Did that a looong time ago, so I'd have to do some digging to find it. :chilling:

PS -Dan, if you want to get those filesizes down a LOT smaller, when you save them do a "File>Save for Web" (Photoshop) or "File>Save Optimized" (ImageReady) and knock down the Colors a notch or two (64 or 128, instead of 256) AND change the image to the actual size you want to display it with (using "Image>Images Size")

Here's one of your animations at 1/10th the size (274kb, as opposed to 3,891kb):

Definitely ImageReady for animated gifs and swf files for the web if you have Pshop.

Dan are you willing to share with me how to cleanly get opals into a marble? I have some .3-.5grm tumbled opals and was waiting till I got some solid info on proper encasement in a mib before I tried this.

Nice marbles by the way, and the animi is pretty good.

- Close and round the end of a small tube and drop one in.
- Heat up slowly in gentle flame.
- When bottom of opal is encased, start sucking on tube to pull molten glass up around opal.
- Flame-cut the encased opal off the tube and leave it on a small punty.
- When putting it in a marble (or whatever) encase with at least the same diameter of glass between opal and surface.

Thanks gnimelf,

I did a few of the tube encasement of the opals already, I even sucked the air out as you mentioned without thinking about it, just seemed like the right way to go, worked good to, anyway, I want to use them in 2" vortex marbles and I always get air bubbles trapped when coil potting clear (I'm a newb), so is there another good way to get it into the 20mil rod I'm using?, can I just melt it into the end of the rod? and then cone it and start building my vortex.
