Hello,

I got a Paasche VLS Air Brush and wanted to experiement with making iridized glass pendents. Is there some place online that I can buy a iridized spray?

You can make it easier than you may think:

"Stannous Chloride Iridizing solution" page 69 Boyce Lundstrom's Glass Fusing Book Two.

Have fun, wear a mask, use extreme caution and be well ventilated.

mix us up some Tin Oxide polishing powder with some alcohol (careful, alcohol burns) and spray on hot.

If you don't have some serious _SERIOUS_ ventilation tho, don't even bother...

I mean, if all you care about is iridizinf pendants, and you want to live for 3 weeks is all, then do it without ventilation...

but....

Do it outside with your back to the wind or under a real / certified exauhst hood.

OH, I didn't re-print the whole page for you because of some laws, you know.

I also didn't re-print the whole thing for you because this process is hazardous, and who knows? You may be one of those people with the sideways cap. Can't be responsible for some doof hurtin' themself.

I'm aware of the serious safty and health concerns.

but what I want to know is what is a real / certified exauhst hood?

I had a local HVAC company make my work table ventalation system and make up air. I have my work table completely enclosed in sheet metal with 3 walls and roof with a 400 cfm exhaust fan with only about 3 foot of ducting to the outside of the house.

The system works for glass blowing and fuming glod and silver.

I have respirator mask too.

just get some glass lusters..mother of pearl or opal and fire it on in the kiln..probably same effect, available at glasscraft.

I read somewhere that if you fire a shovelfull of soft glass marbles in the kiln with a pinch of copper carbonate it will irridise the whole batch. I am curious if it would work with hard glass

if it iridizes the whole batch what's it doing to the inside of the kiln ???

Never thought about it. Hopefully you haved saved someone from contaminating their kiln.

400 cfm? I mean....what size fan you need is dictated by the size of your bench...but i wouldn't fume with only 400 CFM. I certainly wouldn't be iridizing things.

I actually have considered doing that... but just so some random person (random to me) might find or dig up a marble or pendant or pipe of mine or something...

If you're gonna do that stick a coin in there for the metal detector folk :)
