packing peanuts

So, I finally got around to cleaning up the other side of my garage (the part that isn't the shop), and I seriously spent around 2 hours just dumping styrofoam peanuts out of boxes and into garbage bags, what a fucking pain.

what to do now?

I don't want to throw them away
I've tried giving them away, no one wants them
I thought about melting them down into a styro-marble but that would just be messy
They aren't safe to eat so chew-toys for the dogs is out
A peanut filled pillow has crossed my mind, but it wouldn't really be that comfy
They can't even be used as slingshot ammo, which is sad

It seems to me that the packing peanut is basically useless except for packing. Somebody on this board has to have the master plan for these things...

i give mine away at this place called 'mail boxes etc.' but they were just bought out by UPS and they still take em

i even gave them some with a dead spider or 2 haha extra spider=extra good

I go through them and have my local friendly shop owners bag 'em up for me all the time. Much cheaper than buying them... and they need to do something with them. It works out great. I say make something out of glass and send it out to a customer! :D or find somebody that ships and drop them off. They'll love you for it!

Yo you can bring them to "the ups store" they will take them IN SOME CASES, STILL IN THE CARDBOARD THEY CAME IN. This will save you the hours of dumping them into platic bags, and less waste too. dude, these guys RESELL the penuts for rediculous prices
(check the prices out) so dont feel bad to show up with cardboard boxes full of peanuts for them, thats what i do.

I never thought about giving them to a shipping store, good idea. Those guys are such greedy bastards I would love to hook them up. I've got more goodies laying around than just spiders... SURPRISE MF!!!!! :rollin

I've got a recent packing peanut story:

I've been collecting them for the past few years in hopes I could put them to use some day for shipping merchandise. I had 5 big black bags full of them...worth a lot retail so I was saving myself some cash. Well, last month my wife and I took a vacation and we had her father come over the night before the garbage pickup to put out our bin on the street. Well, the jerk saw the peanut bags sitting in the garage (far away from the trash bin) and figured it was trash, too, so he put them all out with the bin as well. Later that night the winds totally picked up and blew the bags open...the peanuts completely littered the court where we live. Peanuts all over my neighbors yards and in the street. The next morning he came back over to put the trash bin back in our yard and was shocked to see what had happened. He spent most of the day having to clean it all up. I was FRIED at him for throwing my collection away but couldn't help feeling better knowning he was punished for it. Ha ha ha!

Make Napalm. Styro nuts + Gasoline = Sticky Flammable Napalm. Its really fun to burn. Just keep it away from anything valuable and don't breathe the smoke. It burns HOT and it lasts a long time. Fun though. You have to use a lot of styro in just a few cups of gas but you eventuall get a sticky ball that forms in the bottom.

have you ever seen what they go on ebay for? it looks like peep even pay a nice price for shipping. and they are dirt cheap to ship if you ship em usps parcel post. you can ship em in heavy plastic bags banded with tape they charge an extra 15 cents for it being in a bag rather then a box but it works out making it chepaer sence no big heavy box is needed. a big huge garbage bag packed full is under $5 shipping depending on how far its going and you can get $27 or more plus Shipping and handling for a full bag. S/H you could even make a lil more on.
you ever see how much the shipping stores sell a tiny cubic foot bag for its outragus!

I have a lady that runs a mail order biz that i give my extra to. but it works out that a case of tube has about enogth penuts to ship the amount of product that can be made from a case of tube. so on way or anouther they get used.

I never realized packing peanuts were so profitable. It seems like glass distibuters should offer some sort of a deal: 1 30 gallon bag = 1 qp of color. By this method everybody wins, glass companys cut cost on peanuts blowers get "free" color and the earth gets spared a few more nasty peanuts in the land fills (and nobody get hurt when the "napalm" accidentaly sticks to there hand/wrist and burns the shit out of them)

I wounder how much $$$ a 5 gallon tin of napalm or flame thrower fule would fetch on ebay?
Acotone workes wonders for melting the penuts down to a sludge to get rid of em. it will melt em down as fast as you can pour em in to the acotone. The if you let the acotone evaperate you are left with a small hunk of plastic.
