Turning Point Glass

I'm wondering what everyone thinks is a normal price to pay for shipping 20 lbs. of glass rod between Indiana and Wisconsin by UPS - about 250 miles total. I just paid $25 shipping and was a little surprised when I got the bill.
Is there any general rule to assume how much shipping is going to add to an order? In this case it was about $1.25/lb.

i know 5' sticks will cost you more than twice as many 2.5' sticks...
over a certain length is an "oversize package" regardless of what it weighs.

That seems to high. When I order glass from San Jose CA to Portland OR it would cost me about $30 for one case of 32x4. That is a 42lb weight give or take.

Oh yeah, that is UPS also, not freight, just ground.

Just curious, did you go through UPS directly or one of those UPS Store outlets? UPS is expensive as it is, but the UPS store owners add some on top of that too. Staples seems to be one of the few that don't bend me over on shipping UPS.

I believe it was directly through UPS. It was a shipment that I received. I was not given a shipping quote and I saw the cost on the invoice that was attached to the box

sounds about right......
the only way you save on shipping is do it yourself own a truck and buy in bulk. heh that enough added cost. next time you order ask if they know the shipping rules and how to save on em. some times they negotiate it... also remeber once those fragel and glass is marked on there some times they like to nail ya especialy on insurance....
like at some place its the same cost on shipping 5 cases of glass up to 15 cases just cause how its comming. if you have access to a loading dock you can normaly get bigger orders off the truck yourself and that cuts it too.
basicly think of exchanging over head and have the space to store it , or just factor it in.
i dont even notice shipping on small things just cause i expect it like taxes.

I need to vent, and I wouldn't normally drop names, but these guys are just a bunch of jack offs.
First I order some glass from them and their stupid "estimated" shipping cost is $7.50 - turns out it's actually $25 and the charge bounces my account by $2, which my bank charged me $24 for. So this stupid fukin 20lbs of glass that I thought was going to cost me $37.50 has now cost $80.
Then, for whatever reason, I decide to call them and explain what happened and the little prick who answered the phone fukin hangs up on me.
there are a lot of glass suppliers out there and that's the last time I ever buy anything from ABR. They need to at the very least make clear that the "estimated" shipping cost isn't really estimated at all - it's just a default and in no way correlates to what the actual shipping is going to be.

maybe if you change the title to include ABR, ross might actually look, instead of just posting in the classifieds like he does.
this is what.. the 2nd or 3rd post about abr in the last month? wasn't the last one something like "well, we sell those as 6mm opals, even though when you measure them, they're more like 4-5mm.."
anyway.. sorry ross

hmmph...The only problems I've ever had with them was a couple of things out of stock.
I gotta say though, 25 dollars for 20 pounds via ups isn't unreasonable. At least for UPS :)
