so i have fumed gold before and haven't tried it on my mirage nor any gtt. i am having a very fustrating time for some reason. i have looked all over the forum and tried every tech mentioned. i also watched the video that came with the torch where the guy fumes a jar and tried to copy that flame setting best i could. i used to use a premix and its pretty easy to get it to stick. however on the gtt. i see it boiling for a sec, and seems to travel in the flame. the glass is definitly hot which is receiving the gold and i have tried to spray some silver to get it to stick. i have gotten it to stick once but have no idea what i did different. and the gold is 99.9999 % any suggestions? too hot? not hot enough? does gold build up a skin on it like silver if got to hot and unable to fume?

I fume gold and silver with the same flame. I find that gold likes to stick to a light fume of silver better than clear glass.
i'm new to my mirage too so i'm interested to hear the advice of those with more experience but i can tell you what worked for me. i was able to get a good gold by using the red and blue on the ctr fire (with the green barely cracked) and the green outer. the flame looks all pinner and has a decent amount of thrust. it's definantly notheing like the flame that i was taught to fume gold with on my premix.

Oh yeah and try wrapping a little dark colbalt on a clear rod and use the colbalt to hold your silver or gold. The colbalt being a stiffer glass keeps your rod from getting floppy when fuming, and less tendancy to explode when ya put it in the flame. Also i've found that panned gold from around is baddass it may be the same in other parts of the country too.

On my delta I use the inner center oxy to fume gold with and very little outer center oxy. I'll cut off inner oxy and add a bit more outer center oxy for silver. The gold will like to travel about the glass when fuming so be careful it doesn't drip off, but it will start to move less the more it is used. I look for a strong green tint in the flame to know that tells me the gold is fuming. Hope that helps.
