With the seasons changing from fall to winter, the normal species of insect have gone into hibernation. Now the strange, previously unknown insects begin to crawl out of the woodwork. The Thorny Dung-Muncher is just such a beast.

Made on a Nortel Minor, measures about 2" x 2" x 0.5"

The arthropod you seek is the Dobsonfly larvae aka helrgammite aka trout candy but for the nerds out there it's Corydalus cornutus.

Small mouth and trout cant resist them.

Wow, that's intense! I've seen damselflies but the larva in the photo is something else! Thanks Lorax and Dislexei for the photos.

Hey and i forgot to give you props on the beetle! I really like them, and the ones on your site. My mom liked the white beetle and the praying mantis. She also wants me to make her a snail ha ha.

Did you notice the green in the adult females eyes. Very cool.

These bugs are impresive, the larve can be like 3+ inches long. The adults more like 4. The mandibles are impressive on this species.

I think the young are predators just like dragonfly's and damselfly's.
