I've never hooked up a pedal of any sort before to anything and I just scored one of those mechanical blue pedals and the only thing in the box was a lil card with a picture of what appeared to be a Mia.
Can somebody please tell me what I need to do to safely hook this pedal up to use as an on/off switch for my bottom fire on the red max. Or if your in Spokane I'll pay you to come over and make sure I dont kill myself.
I dont even want it to affect my top fire at all, strictly press down for bottom fire.
Thank you!

um you have to set up your red max to be a 4 stud.
is it a Maya pedel or a herbie or something differt? who made it.....
it should have an IN side where you put the lines from your regulator and an out which you put on your torch and another set for your top fire the top fire should be the pilot or the inner fire and one set for the outter fire.......
with out knowing who made it and with out seeing the barb configuration and all its kinda hard to tell... its pretty simple to plumb them in....
btw the longer your hoses the longer the gas will stay on after you take your foot off..... so keep it short as your comfy with like 6 to 10 feet is pushing it.....i guess.....
im sure others might know more

You are lucky in that the max is an easy torch to convert to 4 stud. You should have no problem removing the existing hose barbs and associated plumbing so as each burner can be fed independently.
Just use a little common sense when removing so as not to damage them should you need the parts in the future.
Most decent welding supply places should have the barbs in the diameter that you need. If not I know Nortel does.
Maybe take the max in with you so as you get the right stuff.
You may want to come off the valves straight or put in an elbow....think about where the hoses are gonna sit.
You will also need a set of "Y" s at some point in the rigging.
Good luck
I am sure you will be fine.
Remember to check for leaks at all the fittings.

Converting a redmax from 2 stud to 4 stud is not to hard.
The 2 original hose barbs and the copper crossover tubes and the compression elbows that the tubes go in to on the top fire all come off. then the bottom 2 studs that had the cross overs get replaced with 2 new hose barbs and the compression elbows on the top fire get replaced with threaded elbows and a set of hose barbs. you need to use a zip tie or some thing to hold one of the fittings up against the torch so it don't move. or one of the top elbows needs a tiny brass tang soldered on to it that can grip between the 2 halves of the torch body.
So you now have a set of studs for the bottom fire and a separate set for the top fire.
Then you can use a foot pedal to turn the bottom fire on or off while the top fire stays lit and acts like a pilot flame to light the bottom when it turns on.
You can get the parts from the hardware store or welding supply.
the nipples will be 1/8th inch male NTP thread to 1/4 OD hose barb fitting. and the elbows will be female 1/8ntp to 1/8th male npt threaded elbows.

Now after you get that done and you want to hook it up to the pedal.
the pedal you have should have 3 inlets on it. One for gas, One for o2 and One for air witch will go unused in this case.
The one with the red dot is gas, The blue dot is o2 and I forget the color they use for air. But its the other one thats not red or blue. what ever color it is.
The ones that look like they have a T fitting on the gas and o2 are you inlets.
that you hook you main gas and o2 hose coming from your tanks/regs.
then on the T's that branch off are to feed your first stage (in this case your top fire) then on the other side of the pedal there should be some nipples with out T's on them they are your outlets for the second stage(your bottom fire) thats the set that gets turned on/off by the pedal. Run a hose from them in to your bottom fires nippples. observing the proper hose is hooked to the right nipple. red for gas blue for o2.
You may need to tilt your top fire down a bit so it lights the bottom fire properly when it turns on.
