so heres my udea, ive never seen this done, nor try it but it sounds good to me.

take 3" section of 38x4 and pre heat in kiln to 1050

hold preheated strip of dichro with tweesers, or glove, and tack dichro side down on the top of the tubthen continue to stick dichro strip to the side, then encase the rest of the tube in color, or more dichro...

then rod encase with 10 mil,

heat that bitch and pull out.

any advise? do this dont do that. thanks a bundle

Try it with black tube!!
or
take 4 strips of dicro-back with color
build a box shaped tube- on the end od 25x4
close down the end -heat round out ,and sleeve w/ ie. 45x5
heat,heat,blow, heat ,blow, heat pull
make sure you get everything nice and smooth ,or there will be some cracking issues.

hey that looks good but to me it looks like he coated the dichro side in clear?? how the hell do u do that without burning? thought the flame couldnt touch the dichro? that sounds sweet with the black tube, opens up some ideas.

thanks all, im inspired.

he backed the dichro with turbo cobalt, and you dont want to touch the metal side with the flame.

i personally would not suggest the black tubing since it has the tendency to shatter unexepectedly. you dont want something like that happen your first try, it may discourage some people from doing it again

i ususally dont have a problem putting the dichro side in the flame as long as it doesn't glow too bright. when doing it on a colored tube, i just lay the dichro straight to the tube and i aim my flame where the foil meets the colored tube. its not more then a few seconds, but i dont usually have a problem. oh yeah i also use a very oxidizing flame. the only time i have dichro burn out on me, is where the glass has been cut in to strips (the sharp side) because edges heat up a and melt alot faster then a rounded edge.

you should cover the dichtro side w/ color or clear, you always cover the dichro side w/ something. keeps it from burning out allowing you to shape it as desired.
