Ideas for projects.

I hope to start a thread for ideas for us all when we are looking for that new challenge.
I'll start off with listing some of the things I have done.


walking cane
skull dice
shifter knobs
necklace chains
chainmail necklace
drums
dragon that blows smoke (ground glass fittings, and a baloon)
rolling pin
flute (never could get more than 3-4 notes in tune at once)

hum i have a couple but most of my ideas are nearly imposable at my skill level.

maybe in a year or two. if i come up with something fun ill post it we can start collecting it for all you bored master glass artists.

So post your idea, and ask how to achieve it. I'm sure someone knows some tricks to make operatins easier. There is more than one way to skin a cat. (though none that the cat likes!)

i really wanna make glass hermit crab shells. i just don't own any hermit crabs.

na .. that ain't so picky. i've seen one living in a little one shot liqour bottle. they sell hand painted shells at pet stores, that's how i got the idea.
i guess they are really sensitive to temp changes. and my house is anywhere from 58-85 degrees. so i have to figure out a way to keep them alive before i get some. plus they kinda smell bad.

back to the subject, heres some ideas i wrote down this summer, some stuff to make in the future, to make sure i wont get bored....
What i like about lampworking is the capacity to make a big range of objects. just like metal worker, or ebenist, etc.... Create a usefull stuff from scratch... or an incredible piece of art....
and i also like any kind of challenge and weird shaped object..
it makes your mind work and find new ways to accomplish the desired result.

flute, saxophone, etc... ( i tried also a couple flute and a Saxo, but the tune is limited.. maybe with some work i could make something potentialy playable. )

others ideas are regular work we see around here..,,
there is a lot of thing that can be done in glass.. i like to look around me and ask myself if i could do that item in glass... etc... :bounce

uhh...i got an idea..... ANYTHING YOU CAN IMAGINE...the other day i made a liger. it's a cross between a lion an a tiger... know for it's magical powers... i think it's my favorite animal......

plus they kinda smell bad. only when dead!! We have a couple of crabs and they don't stink. Well, no worsre than our kids. Glass shells is a good idea. Once you got the shape and design right, you could start customizing. Kids would love them. Although, we like the natural looking ones.

i think glass flutes are a great idea. i have attemtped a couple with 8 holes. but like Brian said, the tuning is a little tricky.. i had a little bamboo flute and tried to just match the distance of each hole..worked all right. pretty fun. i might just have to try one tonight.

You can try to tune it furthur by adjusting the size of the holes.

here is my idea the peice is a white pillar with a strawberry on top, and a bunch of human figures are climbing and fighting to get to the top.

And the title of the peice is over population.

fish tank floaters , with dangly type gigs ( I think fish would be cool) , so you have "hovering" items that drift around . I thought fishing line would work to dangle them from the floats .

Something I have made before, that others might want to try, is a lighter holder with a chain attached to a pipe.

I think a tungsten pick should do it. Once I build one I'll post some pics.... it might be a while.--

I had to chirp in on the Hermit Crab shell Idea... I made about 5 of these and put them in my tank that had 18 hermit crabs(at one time :depressed ).. One day I came home and one of the crabs was in one of my ugliest glass shells... I took two crapy pictures and went down stairs to make about 20 more.........:spaced:

I came up stairs and low and behold------------it was out of its new home walking naked... :twitch: It found another normal sea shell and no glass shell was ever used again.... :crying: I need to try a few more i think my twists just sucked. Flatten and twist???

But What happened to Chubblers.....

ive made guitar slides they are really easy and everyone and there mom plays guitar

also didgeridoos are fun. you could make some heady digeridoos on a lathe.

i really like the fishing lure idea and i just tried to wrap some glass on a hook LOL the hook just melted instantly and spattered eeek. but you could do it on some stainless steel with a loop at both ends and put one of those tri-hooks on the end.......

i also just tried making a flute and couldnt get it to whistle, anyone know the trick?

fishtank ornaments a sweet because when you put it in the water the clear glass kinda disappears.

some hippies told me about sparkle wands, just a tube with a small hole in the end, fill it with sparkle glitters and go around annoying everyone with glitter in there face.

i also like making sake sets.
