I was just wondering if anyone has a recomendation for a good, reliable distributor. Lately I have not been having much luck, it seems like every site I have ordered stuff from the last times have been out of stock of what I ordered, but their sites never say so. I am really frustrated with this last order. I am looking for a New GTT Phantom, and I need it ASAP, I have an exhibition coming up and I need to get some work done quick, which means I need this torch, quick, my national just wont cut it for what I am doing, and I had a buddies Baracuda for a bit, but he needed it so now I am stuck between a rock and a hard place, and GlassEvolution.com took a full week to get ahold of me just to tell me they didn't have any phantoms, WTF :wes:

i would suggest calling gtt direct and asking them if they know who might have one in stock. start at the source. (610) 838 2446

Why does it have to be a gtt phantom? You could probably find a CC or Redmax pretty easily and they will do the same job and probably save you some cash on gas. I personally have worked on all three torches and believe it or not I prefer the Redmax(nortel is not a sponsor of mine. Hahahaha) I am a big believer in the versatility and simplicity of working on this torch, regardless it sucks when your limitations are determined by your tools. Goodluck with your dilemma..

bad advice, bad advice. GTT are by far the best an will help you perform better than a red max. Keep looking for a gtt.

i love both my redmaxes, but i'd have to put in a couple months on a phantom to see what i thought was more capable....but i know i'd use a mirage over a redmax hands down....if they were both options....as for now, the $1000+ price difference means the RM's can keep gettin me by.

ps. i have no idea where you can find a phantom. sorry.

the sweet thing about a bullet burner is the centerfire and pedal capabilitys. i think a phantom is limited by the single row outter fire. I rock a mirrage, I love it so much..... but it is a lot more $$

man, its gonna be at least another week or two before i see my baby, I cant wait, and from what I have heard, GTT is well worth the wait. I thought about getting a Barracuda, and the Hellcat, and the Red Max, but why buy the economy class when you can have the high end shit right? Don't get me wrong, I have no doubts that all these torches are dope(I have worked on a Cuda, very nice torch), i have just heard awesome things about GTT.

To answer the original poster's question: finding *any* distributor with GTT's torches in stock (especially the larger torches) is hit and miss. It's not the distributor's fault: GTT only makes so many torches at one time, and they are quickly bought up (either by distributors or by people that go direct).

Now, as to which torch to get ... The best torch is the one that is available, and can do what you need it to do. To say that XYZ torch is the "best", but it is unavailable, is meaningless. Artists have been making great glass on just about every torch out there (including Hot Heads!). Don't be swayed by someone else telling you which torch is 'best'.

Just remember, the torch that you 'want' (vs 'need') *may* be difficult to find. So, it may pay to have a second choice.

what makes you think you only have a week or two left to wait? I'm assuming you called gtt and asked. They've been telling me a week or two for 6 months. Buy a used torch for $500-800 would be my advice. I got a pm2d and I'm pretty sure that's a lot hotter then a phantom, and guess what? It took a few days for it to arrive, not months of calling and being lied too.

goodluck bro, get a used torch :chilling:

Nicely put Malcolm...And in reponse to bc's reply to my post in this thread, bad advice is telling someone that the type of torch they have will make them a better lampworker. The only things that will make you a better lampworker are countless hours behind the torch challenging your abilities, and possibly having a decent person with more experience to help you. Bc I checked out your work and I would bet you had both.(That's a compliment)
