So my neighbors house and shop (where I work) got broken into last night....I guess they couldnt figure out the lock on the main shop door so nothing large (torches) was taken from the shop, some marbles and 2 pipes, then they just trashed the doors and windows....maybe they just didnt know what to take? His house was picked clean.... a day before his rent is due.... then to make matters worse he just shows up at my door covered head to toe in blood, bleeding from the wrist.... lesson for tonight: Fist + Window = Blood.

*sigh*

This town is getting to me....

Gee, thanks for "reality" check rusty, I guess I should be happy my shop was busted up and my neighbors house robbed then? Life goes on, and nothing stops just because CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News are all focused on one event. This is still nothing compared to the tsumani.... and on that note I don't give two shits about what happens to the STUPID people who stood in the face of certain death and are crying for help now. They should have left when they had the chance, and they had PLENTY of warning. All this rescue stuff is a waste of tax payer dollars. This was NOT a freak occurence with no warning like the tsunami, this was something that anyone who has ever been in a hurricane KNEW was going to be bad, and they ignored plenty of early warning. This is the same storm that killed 11 people in florida several days before... people KNEW this was going to happen, a reinsurer from loyds of london today said thisisn't even as bad as what they planned for. People were warned.

You survive or you DIE.... that's reality... all the cities and civilization is just decoration. life goes on for now.

Anyways.... rant done.

But c'mon bro; turn off your TV and pay attention to your colleagues. We are all here to support and teach eachother. If youre that worried about the flood then go fill some fucking sand bags and feed sandwiches to the hungry victims that are standing in 3 feet of water on Borboun st.

i had some one try to break into my shop one christmas eve, i guess they thought i would be gone. But i wasn't. They smashed out one of my windows, my dog probably scared em off before i could check it out. It Would have been a shitty christmas to come back after spending it with my family only to find that my shop had been looted. Well to make things worse i guess they thought i would be out partying on new years eve and they attempted again smashing another window. Too bad for them i work allot. I have no respect for thieves and if they had dared stick their head in the window well that would have not been so good for them.

Reasons...

THIS IS OUR FUCKING COUNTRY, AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE AND DEAD, AND HOUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS ARE HOMELESS.

DO I NEED MORE.

Sure it sucks your shop got broken into, but I seriously don't understand that anyone that knows whats going on in our country right now, doesn't care, and would be that harsh on top of not caring.

I'm with Rusty here, do you actually think all of those people just decided to stay because they wanted to. Maybe it's because New Orleans is poor as shit... have you ever been there? Those people don't have anywhere to go, they can't afford a car, a hotel room, ect. This is a sorry state for this country. Why are we blamming people who are so financially strapped, that they should have left, maybe we should start blamming FEMA. They directed them to shelters where people are being shot and raped, not kept safe and healthy. I saw this coming a days before this happened. I've seen the Discovery channels docudrama on this exact situation a year ago. They predicted it to a "T" We need to get up and do something. I suck at the computer so I'm not sure how to set up an auction but I'd donate many pieces to be auctioned off to help and donated to the Red Cross. Just for your info I would be willing to bet there is a glassblowere in that region that lost EVERYTHING, not just his torch or his glass but probably a HOME, maybe a family member, who the hell knows... forget them though they should have got out, yah compassionate. And a side note... I feel for anyone who has had stuff stolen, even if it did happen to take place during this horrible event, But our tears and effort should go to the THOUSANDS DEAD and HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS HOMELESS.

After your response, I dont have any. I hope you re-read your response and meditate on your lack of emotion and caring for people who dont have it as good as you.

" If youre that worried about the flood then go fill some fucking sand bags and feed sandwiches to the hungry victims that are standing in 3 feet of water on Borboun st"

Greymatter Glass

I'm just watching too much news is all. I posted that after accidently switching to Bill Orielly and listening to him for too long... I know a lot of people couldn't get out, that's why I defined my anger towards the STUPID people, not meaning to call everyone who stayed STUPID.... Stupid doesn't mean Handicapped, Retarded, Indigent, or Children. I'm talking about the looters, the arrogant, the people who could do something but did not.

I guess I can't say _ALL_ the rescue effort is a waste, it's deffinately not.... but still, I'm sick of sympathy for the stupid. The elderly, the children, and the handicapped aren't the stupid ones... it's the guys who go out, spend 2-3 days looting then take pot shots at rescue workers who are trying to help, and there's a LOT of that going on.

I saw a guy on TV getting off a coast guard rescue chopper saying "well, we heard the news, they said it was gonna be worse than ever, but we decided to stay on and wait it out, thank God for the Coast Guard" ..um.. WRONG! Thank all the tax payers and the people who support that helicopter for your rescue you dumb ass, GOD wasn't there.... I want to SMACK that idiot because he really had no reason besides iggnorance and stupidity to stay, and now he's costing us all money. I know a lot of you probably don't pay taxes, but for those that do.... this is serious.... this is something we knew would happen... where was the government 3 years ago when this was all simulated? Why were important maintaince bills not passed that would have prevented (maybe) the levees from breaking? Where were these peoples outrage then? NOW when they're all looking at their feet and saying "gee, I should have known better" it angers me somewhat that they stayed.

I'm watching people get off helicopters at the airport and they're just running around and playing like this is a day off work for them.... they're taking up space for the people who REALLY need help, and I KNOW there are plenty who do.

Anyways, I applogize to anyone who read what I said and mistook it for an utter and complete lack of compassion, that's not where I am comming from... I was angry and frustrated, and I still am.... but it's not at the people who are in genuine need of assitance... it's at the people who stayed to cause trouble or just stayed because they're stupid.

As for this being worse than the Tsunami, I guess I just don't agree that Americans are worth more than people from another country. I view mankind as a whole and diverse community of equal but separate regions, so the HUMAN BEINGS that die in NOLA are no more important to me than the HUMAN BEINGS who died in the Tsunami. From a physical standpoint the tsunami came with virtually no prior warning, it was a freak act of nature, Katrina came with a weeks prior notice that a storm was on the way and at least 3 days notice that it was going to hit NOLA and be among the worst ever.

having driven to NOLA I know the routes in and out are not unlimited, but they're there, they're efficient, and there's no excuse for not getting out if you COULD. If you couldn't, for whatever reason outside of your controll, then you don't get included in my rant.

Anyways, when the waters calm down a bit maybe I will too... my applogies again to anyone I upset with my comments.

-Doug

case in point: "Starnaded in the Ritz" was a topic on CNBC pr MSNBC, one of the two (probably both). There's a group of CDC doctors, energy execs, and other hoity-toity types that are in the Ritz Carlton. They've privately hired security guards (deserrted police, mostly I suspect) to stand guard over them with shotguns because they didnt head the warning. Now they're being targeted by angry mobs wanting to take their hoarded stockpiles of food and water as all these big hotels have. One lady was quoted on day 4 of this as saying "Well, we didn't have lunch today" but we were lated assured they had plenty of food and water by the hotel manager.

The reason I think they're REALLY stupid is that they had several days warning, their events were cancelled, they had plenty of time and money to get out, but they stayed to be hurricane tourists when everyone else with any ability was getting out of the city. 2-3 days AFTER the storm they payed $25,000 for a couple of busses to come get them, and ONLY them (and their luggage and shit) and are now talking about a lawsuit because the National Guard not only would not let the busses in the city, but actually had the nerve (sarcasm) to commandeer the buses and use them as part of VALID reliefe efforts.

The problem is now, these STUPID people are going to take up not only tax money but even more valuble TIME to be rescued when they had NO reason to stay in the first place.

Another thing I think we ALL just found out about is the Convention Center where people were apprently told to go by authorities, but were then left stranded, unlike the people at the superdome. BTW, The people at the superdome aren't stupid either, they did what they could when they could, it wasn't enough, but that's not their doing, and they're real victims. They're the fortuneate ones of the area tho, as they've had full FEMA attention since this all started... so anyways.... again I'm sorry about my late night rant... it was misguided and I hope you all dont read too deep into it, What's said is said, but please understand the context I wrote it in and all that....

Rusty.. you totally could get in there if you really wanted to. The news channels havent had any problems doing so and some guy who is doing one of the benefit concerts was on the news talking about how easy it was to get in there and that he was outraged at how easy it actually was (considdering that our govt is taking their sweet time and saying that they cant get in there etc....). Fucking walk your ass out, except for people who were sick or disabled somehow no one had any reason to stay. Not to mention all those people getting raped and robbed at the superdome. It really is the scummest motherfuckers that got left. Look on the news...

I feel for the people who COULDN'T make it out but I shit on the people who stayed and then starting looting and all that. Their the ignorant ones.

I dont think for one second that ALL the people that are stuck in New Orleans are the "scummest motherfuckers" and they didn't all deserve to get conveniently forgotten by our govt for better than half a week now to "thin out the herd". There are bad apples in every bunch and I'd be willing to bet that the number of rapes and shootings aren't any higher than they are in any major metropolitan area on any given day of the week(flood or not). It sucks about the marbles etc.. But you should be grateful that that was all it was. I've got 10 pendants to donate to an auction but my usb port on my computer is fried so i cant exactly post pics or anything but if anyone is organizing anything; hit me up and I'll send em wherever they gotta go. And Rusty... it's ok to care about both the flood AND the robbery :rollin

Even if you had no car I would think you could get on a bike and probobly haul ass around most those people creeping out at 5mph in their car. I doubt those rapes would have happened on any day of the week too, the robbery's too, these motherfuckers are taking advantage of people in their worst times.. ha ha. Actually the bar was called neds. Theres one downtown and by I40 and Rancho blvd, thats the one by the best western we stayed at. The story got revised a bit after I came home last Sunday. Apparently after left, a few of my friends were talking to the cocktail waitresses, and their boyfriends were in their and got jealous or something, so the bouncer said they had to go for fear of a fight breaking out. Otherwise, New Mexico is beautiful. We just hit the wrong place off the bat.

So my week has gone from good to worse, if were still in the same week, or year doug.

I had my surgery yesterday, a hemicap implant, and the toe bone resurfaced from bone spurring. It was numb until this morning, then that wore off and the pain began. I called my Dr. and she wrote me a script for hydomorphone a class 3 narcotic, but had to have it picked up as they can't fax those in.

My wife leaves work and drives an hour to the Dr. office, gets my script and one of those handicap parking cards for me (yeah, I must be in the front row)
Im waiting for her and my meds as Im in a lot of pain...so I have to let the dog out, and miss the last step, its either fall down, or land on my foot that just had the surgery, so instinct tells me put my foot down. ouchhhh. I get in the house, call my wife to see where shes at with my meds, and drop the phone right on top of my bad foot to boot. doulble ouchhhh.

I took 3 of them right away and Im feeling like hell yeah.

oh, I did have to go back and correct some spelling though. So Im laid up for awhile, but feel like getting back on the torch and elevating my foot rather than watching the same dvd's. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

steve
