Lucio just myspaced me a link to a couple of vids of him making a winged figure. Sweet demo vids, free on the web, thought I'd share them here.

There some good shots of the Moretti warming rack in action, I want one of these. Might weld up my own soon.

This should be very informative for those who think that pyrex is the only choice for lampworking. Lucio makes a sculpture in like 15 minutes out of soft glass, although he does have a assistant heat up the two large bits needed for the wings. I love how he gets such a great shape for his wings in a minimum of time, wouldn't go down like that with pyrex.

I'll bet he sold the piece for at least 500 euros, probably more... not bad for 15 minutes of work.

Yeah probably more. Seemed like 900 Euro was the norm for most of his single figure goblets out there. 400 euro for a bead :D. The trick though is to get the large diameter soft glass rods. I have heard that you can get them here but you have to special order them, as most bead makers don't want 10mm rods.

Thanks for the link, but what software do you need to see the vids?

Check out Frantz Art Glass, under Effetre Rod there's an "Assorted Large" category. This is what I use for my larger figures. Don't know if this link will work (I hate their website!)

I believe you need Quicktime. If they don't open up and play automatically, download them (rt click>save) and itunes should play them.

As long as we're kinda on the subject, do y'all think Lucio is the best payed lampworker alive today? I don't know how long Stankard takes to pull off his $20k paperweights, but I'll bet that Lucio makes more per hour. I can't think of anyone else who pulls down that kind of cash on a torch, straight baller style.

I'm sure he's way up there, don't really know what his figures go for but I doubt I could afford it. But I'd still be surprised if he stacks as much paper as Chihuly. Then again he doesn't really even do his own work so I don't know if that counts... :puzzled:

...didnt chihuly have a limited edition series that he claim x number of pieces but actually made more than the 'limited' number? thats one way to stack paper i guess.

I was limiting it to only lampworkers, there's plenty of furnace workers that make alot more then $2000/hr... Well, maybe not plenty, but enough.

$2000/HR, that is after all a pretty serious wage for a lampworker to make.

Not that it really matters or anything, just food for thought I guess. I'd be stoked on $2000 a day myself.

Ok that makes sense, didn't think about the lampworker/furnace distinction. But we all know that Spinbad banks the most, he probably makes 2k taking a crap, right?
