what are the boxes under the rep points?

Someone will probably explain better, but they're just little markers for how long folks are on their path to reputational righteousness. If you hover over them you get a cutesy little status bubble.

Here is what they really mean:

You start with a rep of 10 points and rep altering power of 0
(your points are your reputation and your rep altering power is how many points you give out to others)

For every 365 days you gain 1 point of rep altering power

For every 1000 posts you gain 1 point of rep altering power

For every 100 points of reputation, you gain 1 point of rep altering power.

You need to have more than 50 posts before your reputation hits count on others.

You have to give 10 users rep hits before you can hit the same person again.

just to add to what suheke said, the rep power goes up for all of the things she listed (time of membership, post count ...) but the boxes only increase based on how much rep you've been given by other members. they're kind of a marker of how helpful others think you have been.

Doug I never figured that out. I think it just decided green was better at some point and started giving out green boxes after so many blue ones. hehe :D

i've noticed that it takes 100 points of rep love to get a blue box but the greenies take more. otherwise misha would have a whole army of boxes. i think it just saves space.
