so ive been trying to do some more interesting shapes, and really like the look of those flame and spiky pieces.

is this stuff done with just like taking a punty on and pulling/blowing out with insane control or is there some secret to it??
i cant really find a good pic of exactly what im talking about, but that 'flame' look to a stright section where they pull and curl both sides out a bunch of times.
i had always done little spikes etc by getting a ripping hot gather of clear placing it on and blowing into it. but this only seems to work with more solid color/fume designs and always fucks up any line/twisty style designs for me. how do you pull out the design like that without making the section just get really thin??

Are you looking to do a tubulation or a solid attachment of horns/flames?

The two large horns on the example you used look like they were made by cutting open a donut. The style you're thinking of may not be done that way, though.
For less drastic horn shapes, the method you described should be ok (even without the clear gather)-- as long as your piece is thick enough to begin with, and you apply heat to a large enough area.

Sorry didn't see link, what Lowly Worm said is the way it's done. You can also heat sections, tag with cold rod and pull and puff. Snap off cold seal. This will work for small accents.

yea i dont realy have time to find any good examples at the moment. but its hollow, usually like the stem on a hammer piece. and it will be like stacked reballs etc, then flattened out a bit and then pulled those flamey curls off the top and bottom, ends up loking kind of like a flaming sword, or a zig zaggy shape. the pattern is totally continous though, not like tacked on, so it must just be stretched reballs
when i try though it just like tears holes in itself or blows out thin and ruins the pattern etc

Maybe start thicker, and heat more of the section than you think. Try it with clear first. Just make the donut, cut through on one side, heat one of the cut sections all the way around and through, tag with cold rod and pull into shape, give a puff, knock off punty and flame polish. Now repeat on other cut side. When I do hollow forms I haven't done before, I'll just practice on clear until I get the idea of how to accomplish the shape I'm looking for. Saves a bunch of time, glass and patience.

This sounds kind of similar to what you're trying to do:

try putting a bridge/brace on the piece so that you can get it really hat and let it gather on itself before you pull...does that make sense? I hope so...
