hello i just got a sample pack of cbs dichro. This sample pack includes one 1X4strip of 10 colors in all. The colors i have received are as follows: Candy Apple Red, Green Pink, Emerald Green, Magenta Green, Yellow Blue, Blue Gold, Copper Cyan, Red Silver Blue, Aqua, Salmon..... im going to be making galaxy pendants with all of it. my question is, should i preheat the strip in the kiln before i back it with clear and twist it? if so, at what temperature and how long? also, any suggestions of what backing colors would go well with the different colors of dichro i have? i have northstar color only. thanks for any advice.

preheating is not a must do, but probably wouldnt hurt, only to 1050 id say... back with something dark, or opaque..

Black goes well with all colors of dichro. Dark transparent reds like Garnet or Dark Elvis look good too. Dark Cobalt is nice. I don't like to use anything too bright because it takes away from the dichro. Stick with just plain dark colors so that the dichro itself will be the focus.

while apricot is not dark, it too looks awesome with dichro....it makes it look sort of like a glowing sun pendant.

Pre-heating in the kiln isn't needed. I just barely heat up the edge where im going to punty up, then heat up the whole peice in the flame, but never on the dicro side. It also helps to crank up the oxygen when using dicro. Good luck with the pendents...

oxy at like 60lbs and you should have no problems. Since I have upped my oxy with dichro use I have not had any burnout issues at all. Here is a 2"+ mib I did using CBS emerlad.

I roll all my dichro in a pile of dirt, feces, and dog hair before putting it in the flame. Then I put just the dichro side against the flame, running really heavy propane flame. The best applications come AFTER all the visible color dichro layer has turned white and ashy.
....
or you could do it like these other guys say, because my way is harder to master.
(it's a joke, people)

The candy apple red always turned out green for me.
When backing the dicro, try to keep most of the flame on the clear rod and less on the dicro coating. Also, clear up the cut edges by scraping them off hot with a 4mm. They may bubble later and give an undesirable effect.

thanks for all the help from everyone. i have a hurricane oxy machine i think its 19psi and i crank it all the way up with my propane at about 4psi. i used the candy apple red and blue gold. the candy apple red looked cool with dark garnet and the blue gold which came out very shiny green looks cool with midnight and indigo averntine. before this dichro all i had was that ebay scrap bs which ive heard was from some las vegas casinos old ceiling trash. this stuff is amazing compared to that, i had that ebay stuff turn ash white about 50% of the time not to mention its a pain in the ass not knowing what colors of dichro youre using. thanks again

I can only say that Greymaters method is definately the way to go!
