Sponsored by Glass Alchemy, LTD (http://www.glassalchemyarts.com)
When: Monday, August 18th thru Saturday, August 23rd, 2008
Where: Western Pennsylvania at The Glass Blowing Center (http://www.glass123.com)(a.k.a “Wonka World”)
What is AGI?
AGI is an annual gathering held in a rural area of Western Pennsylvania. Here are some articles written by Deborah Carlson (http://www.deborahcarlson.com/) that appeared in Glassline Magazine (http://www.hotglass.com) that describe it in better detail.
AGI 2007 (http://www.csonline.net/glass/agi-2007.pdf)
AGI 2006 (http://www.csonline.net/glass/agi-2006.pdf)
This year’s demonstrators: *More will be added at a later date*
-Emilio Santini:
Emilio Santini was born in Murano, Italy, into a family with six hundred years of glass blowing tradition. His father, a glass blower and self-taught lampworker, was his first teacher.
*Subject matter to be announced at a later date.
-Roger Parramore (http://www.rogerparramore.com):
With 35 years experience under his belt, Roger is known in the industry as “The Human Lathe”. In addition to demonstrating a huge vessel, Roger will also lecture us about the evils of pulling points!
-Glass Alchemy:
Henry Grimmett and an assistant will be conducting hands on demonstrations, concurrent with a lecture and Q&A session about working with colors. This format has worked well in the past and has improved knowledge of colors and achieving desired effects for many.
-Barry Lafler (http://www.islandglass.com/):
Barry will be conducting a “glass challenge”, in which 15 random people will be receiving a bag of items that will have to be formed into one complete item within 24 hours. The winner and runner up will receive cash prizes!
-Kenan Tiemeyer (http://www.tiemeyerglass.com):
I’ve been an admirer of Kenan’s work for quite some time, and I’m glad he will be here to show us some of the amazing effects he achieves just by fuming silver and gold.
Demo #1: Kenan will complete a solid piece - double sided honeycomb vortex marble using Simax. He will emphasize the structural assembly of the double sided marble / vortex which he has found to be challenging over the last year.
Demo #2: Kenan will focus on the hollow applications of fuming with gold and silver using Kimble. This will be a more bead oriented demonstration and he will most likely end up making a variety of styles of beads.
-J.C. Herrell (http://www.jcherrell.com/):
JC will demonstrate soft glass techniques she has developed and employs in beadmaking with 104 COE glass such as Effetre (Morretti), Lauscha, and Vetrofond. Topics will include heat control and stringer work as well as the application and special working properties of using enamels in lampworking.
-The Photo Wizard:
A good friend of mine will be conducting a comprehensive seminar and slide show about photographing your work and editing it correctly in Photoshop. For more details about this class, please check out this link (http://www.csonline.net/glass/photoshop.doc):
Other fun stuff:
-Friday Night poker Game:
It’s a tradition every year for Tecnolux to sponsor a poker game (Texas Hold ‘em) in which each player “buys in” with a piece of hand made glass.
Saturday Night Party:
This is the end of the week party in which we say goodbye to all of our new (and old) friends until next year. The party features live music, free beer, and a pig roast.
Private “resort”:
Our neighbors across the street have offered to open up their place to us, which is the closest thing to a “resort” as you will find around here which includes an in-ground swimming pool and a luxurious bar room with taps, billiard table, pinball, jukebox, and slot machines. This will be available to us at select times throughout the week.
Bill Rasmussen Lounge:
This fully furnished air conditioned lounge features a 60” widescreen TV, VCR, DVD player, with a library of glass blowing DVD’s and videos.
What’s included:
-All classes / demonstrations
-5 buildings / 60+ work stations with propane, oxygen, and adequate ventilation
-Ample kiln space
-3 meals a day
-Free bags of ice and chilled water taps
-Shower rooms
-BBQ / cooking area
-Free camping on 8 acres of wooded land
-Campfire areas
-Free RV parking on premises / reservation required (small fee for electric hookup)
