put a little bit of chocolate sauce and ketchup on them. If they open up the case, I'm sure they woln't take too hard of a look if they think they have been used.

I know a few guys that have traveled back and forth from central america with both sex toys and pipes. Actually my friend brought back an entire suit case full of glass for his daughter. I can't imagine if the U.S. lets people bring them this way why they'd stop you in Europe. Hopefully you get a guy with a good sense of humor when he asks you what those dillys are at security going out.

Much like the banned fingernail clippers -- I pledge to beat the shit out of any hijacker using them to take over a plane I'm on :)

hard blunt objects are a no-go on planes in the US.

TSA wouldn't let me on the plane with my marble case once because some of the bigger ones were "too big and heavy"

YMMV

take the case to the TSA office prior to your departure date. Show it to them and axe them if there will be a problem. If the say no problem, get it in writing on their stationary signed by someone in charge. That will at least get you out of the country. Getting back in with that stuff will be another matter.

This was my experience last summer:

I was on my flight home from my trip to the mainland for Wheaton this year. I was in Washington Dulles Airport waiting at the gate for my flight and I hear my name announced on the loudspeaker. I went up to the counter, hoping they were going to offer me an emergency exit row seat (which has happened in the past), but I was instead met by the Police and a handful of TSA agents. I was quickly escorted out the back door of the terminal and taken under the airport where all the baggage checks and distribution take place. They were extremely concerned with the contents of my luggage and I found out a few minutes later that I'm lucky they brought me down there, cause they were almost going to blow up my suitcases with everything in them and there's nothing I could do about it. Apparently they've got a little shooting range and a secure detonation area just outside the airport where the bomb squad guys love to get random luggage to destroy!! Anyways, my torch, a GTT Mirage, separated from its base, and packed in a padded case inside the suitcase caught their attention. I think they thought it was a gun due to the barrel shape, but I'm not to sure on this one. The shape of the base of the torch and a piece of 44mm rod about 10 inches long in the other suitcase also peeked their suspicion. They thought the base of the torch was shielding something more hazardous from the x-ray, and apparently clear glass rods of the 44mm size look like a stick of dynamite through said x-ray! They had me SLOWLY unpack everything in front of them and as I explained what I do for a living, and began showing them what everything was, they were immediately relieved, as was I!!!! They were all interested in my work after the fact, and I handed out about a dozen business cards to the officers and agents that were there. It was an interesting experience, one I hope no one else has to go through. Lesson learned, inform the airline to what you've got in your luggage if you're traveling with your torch or any other equipment and materials!!!

They told me from now on, carry big glass rods like that one board. and I explained to them the reasons I packed it and checked it, was cause it's got a sharp edge, it's heavy and could easily be used as a weapon, "I could knock someone out and slit their throuat with this"... They said, CARRY IT ON... so I did...

Just be careful and let them know ahead of time... ask the person at the check in if you should carry it on or check it...

Aloha!

oh yeah. They also have a 35 pound carry on limit rule that I had to fudge with on my trip to Vegas with 50 something pounds of marbles... the over head compartments can't support the weight.... (that's when you promise them you'll put it all under the seat!!) LOL

Aloha Again!

I always carry my GTT on planes and never have trouble, it does get inspected after going through the xray machine, but they just wave me on. And it always is the base, not the barrel that wigs them out and makes them inspect it.

I have flown to Europe a few times with toys and pipes and never had a problem. I always just threw it in baggage, never tried to carry on.
