Made this today,it's inspired by Jes's sculpture & the abundunce of wild mushrooms growing in the California woods now during the rainy season.
The cup's a tiny bit crooked, but my oxy tank was a hair above empty,so I rushed to get a top on,I had just enough oxy to blow a quick top out of 1" heavy & weld it on.When I get the oxy re-filled,I'll re-heat & fix it.Anyways, this was a challenge & I pulled it off,no crackage or weight issues, although my kiln is a bitch. It's a top loading paragon caldera with a bead extention & the front door only has 3" high clearance,so once I welded the third big shroom I had to punty up with a ridiculously long punty & set the piece in the top
while I worked on the mini cluster. I had to pull it out & put it back in a few times like this & was sure I'd drop it or burn myself as I usually do when I have to do that, but every dog has his day I guess. I threw in a pic of it filled with wine just to show it's a solid & even weighted piece. This is a piece I'll probally make more of,so I'll post one in the future when my skills improve.:D

How big is the cup ? As that looks really cool, but I would be worried that when it was filled with liquid, the weight of the liquid would cause the cup to crack off, course I could be totally wrong.

Hey Meerkat, this thing is SOLID,I welded it super nice & holds the wine just fine, only thing is the slightly off center cup caused by the akward way I spiraled the stem, which I fixed the best I could today & it looks better, but not perfect.I just measured the cup for you,it's roughly 4"high & 2" across. The cup was straight looking when I put it on,but I had the claw grabbers & had to juggle & when I took it out of the kiln it was a little lopsided, but from the one side it looks straight, which is weird. I made a new one today an all color reversal ball top & I dropped it putting it in the kiln.It broke, bad, not as solid as this one even though it had more work.A few hours of work down the toilet, but I guess it's all learning, fuck I was pissed at myself, but I got over it quick,I'm a damn beginner.I can re-use some of the shrooms, the foot shattered & the lip broke off the cup, stem broke in half. Anyways, these are definately ornamental & I wouldn't subject them to normal usage, but I drank out of it last night just fine & washed it out. When I finally make what I have in mind I'll post it.I'm picturing a
nice color, reversal top with spirals,a cleaner foot & more shrooms, something really colorful, artsy & psychadelic, all you real traditional goblet makers nightmare:evilLaugh

FUCK UP OF THE DAY,now that's art, abstract art LOL:

Nice. I like that way that they're clustered - just like the real thing!

Right on you guys, thanks! Here's a little pick of one of the clusters(sorry about blurriness,I tried 100 times to get a good pic & just can't with our indoor lights).
I make each shroom, then weld them together in a cluster, then add some clear at the base to help attach & add a cold punty to one of the caps I can just tap off when it's attached. I'm stoked for the next one that stays in one piece,I'm already making better shrooms & the reversal cup should be cool.
