Isn't there some sort of European Scientific Glassblowing certification? I can't find anything off the bat, maybe someone has a link in their back pocket?

Yes England, France, and Germany all have scientific glassblowing certifications. I am not sure if they are all still in use but I do know that to complete the certification is not easy.

Every state in the US has approved apprentice courses all you need is an employer who will follow the requited course. I don't know if there is any shops offering apprentice training now.

go to Salem Community College in NJ it's a good thing.

Approved apprenticeship courses? Maybe it's the 12 hour drive but my googleing isn't turning up much. I can't find anything about the school in NJ meeting such a standard. Yeah, my brain does hurt.

I am going to email the glass museum in Tacoma tommorrow to see if they know who to get in contact with about Washingtons standards. Until then if anyone has a link to the mentioned standards in Washington I would be very appreciative : )

Check with the Department of labor in your state.

The Salem's course is two years and will only cover the basics of scientific glassblowing. Their two year certificate will give you a way into a glass shop . You will still have a long way to go to accumulate the knowledge and techniques required to work at a university glass shop.

Check out the American Scientific Glassblowers Society the information shared by this group will help you.

email Vic Mathews vmathews@littonengr.com He can tell you when the next meeting of the Northwest section of the ASGS

After a couple emails and a phone call a nice woman was able to point me to this (http://online.onetcenter.org/link/summary/51-9195.04) It's more of an outline of things to consider for employers. I am trying to find out if Oregon has any such standards.

I emailed some people at the regional ASGS and am waiting for a response.

Strangely the UK society has not responded, the only people everyone agrees on that has standards.

Thanks everyone for the start!
