camping as well if anyone has any warnings.

yeah,

bring a tarp and possibly an inflatable mattress. it rained like crazy last year, and i wish i had one... if you don't feel like packing extra stuff there's always trader horn down the road...

the tarp is to cover your tent with... believe me, the rain fly does almost crap with downpours.

Looks like I'm going to miss this year. Between teaching and grad school, my wife has exactly 2 weeks available this year in which we can take a vacation. Both are in August, and I can only take one week off that month :( I've tried to interest her in making AGI our vacation, with limited success...

Oh well, she's done with her PhD coursework in December -- see you in 2009.

There are a few others of us. If you haven't attended, it's a blast. I'm trying to get my friend Bryan from last year to come again and he's our age....almost!
Besides being extremely informative it's great being able to hang out with the youngsters, learn about their world, and see all the talent that I enjoy.

themoch
02-27-2008, 08:51 AM
yeah, that's the plan anyhow. i'm actually making two different types in my home right now.

jojo101
02-27-2008, 08:57 AM
are u gonna be making any at agi? lol its not like i need more hobbies but i am so curious.
haha u can blow ur own bottles and sell the beer in it.
actually that mite be profitable if u do it wit liquor.

somberbear
02-28-2008, 02:11 AM
We have a home brew thread to get that togeather at 5 month+ a lot of people dont know if there showing up etc.....

it is illegal to sell homebrew, aka moon shining , also distilling is pretty much totaly illegal in most states with out a licence , and you also have to go to the health board and prove the sanitation etc. so no no profit there. unless your wanting to go that route.

Making your own decanters and bottles for storage can be fun and challanging............ but a whole lotta work.

I will be assembling more shot shot dispensers this year. I have to replace the one that walked away last year. Soberbear is right only legal sprits will be dispensed this year.

hey guys my bad, i didnt mean sell liquor at agi, i was thinking craft fairs, and then after i posted it i realized u cant do it without a liquor license anyway, and didnt know that about moonshine but i didnt go back and edit.
i apologize tho i totally did not mean selling or consuming liquor at agi- i think everyone myself included is going there to blow glass, not get trashed.
again my apologies. but i could still see it bein a cute gimmick to make ur own vessel and sell it with something in it, for example maybe essential oils wit a cork top to allow the smells to escape. but i guess maybe it would be difficult to get paid for the time u would have to put it in it.
back to agi tho, didnt mean to hijack the thread!

AGI sounds like a blast. I am just getting back into glass blowing and my skills are lacking. is there a skill level you must be, or is it open to all levels. I imagine I could learn a amazing amount being around a bunch of fellow glassblowers. I learned in a six person shop and it was a lot of fun. I miss that shop atmosphere.
I own a dog grooming biz and just started working with glass again. mostly doing beads and pendants not much tube work at all. If not this year next year for sure.

Mr. Wonka
03-03-2008, 06:18 PM
Over the years we've had guests ranging from 6 months to 60 years on the torch. All skill levels are welcome!

Also, The golden tickets and the "official" invitations will be in the mail next week.

Give me a call if you have any questions, and we still have tickets available : )

Hey Wonka,
It sounds like I'm one of the oldest thats been to AGI. Was 64 plus last year.
jojo101,
I am not into getting trashed, been there -done that in my youth, but I can tell you that I didn't see anyone TWI (torching while intoxicated) or under the influience at any time even at the Sat nite music celebration party.

jojo101
03-06-2008, 11:03 AM
yea i dont imagine anyone really is going to torch intoxicated. it started as a post i put up with out thinking about it being profitable to put liquor in bottles to sell - not thinking about moonshine etc just thinking of it as a marketing gimmick (my bad) and in trying to explain myself it just started some joking that is maybe being mis understood. but i sincerely have no intention of getting trashed or anything like that, and while i cant speak for anyone else i would imagine that everyone is respectful of wonka's house rules to ensure lots of future agi's. i do apologize for any misunderstanding but i hope people can read between the lines and realize that the posts were in humor and not in disrespect of wonka's house rules or the agi event.

You can buy a tarp (and a wedding dress, 800 sq ft of carpet, a lawn mower, ammo, fish food, baseballs, tractor parts, live poultry, etc) at Trader Horns.

Oh, and if you have a gun bring it, some of us are gonna go shootin' at Dons (don't bring it to the Glass Blowing Center, keep it in your car or at your hotel or whatever)

I'll definitely try to drag my sorry-assed, half-lifed bundle of DNA down there again this year. It was actually great fun -- except for the biting flies.

Plus, since Doni and I are going to both the GAS and ISGB conferences before AGI, we might as well make it a triple-header.

I read all about the AGI got my fliers...and passed them all in the corner/garbage, assuming i wont be showing up.. My little saturn wont last long, and i'm not getting stranded. Uhm...It's a 97 trans am for one...Which was totaled last 4th of july. The past month i've been in a bind. I need to buy a new car. The toss up ended up being between and electric vehicle, which the only one in my price range at this moment would be the zenns. However they only get like 80 miles per charge. Or another trans am. But i really think the bird willl eat me on gas...and my saturn i dont think will make it thru next winter. Either or...I really wouldn't mind going to this thing.........

PS...and even if I WAS driving the trans am...that be like 600$ IN GAS A LONE to get there and back lol

Greymatter Glass
06-04-2008, 06:54 AM

greymatter, last year i went to vegas and cali from ohio (over 6000 miles total) anyways i rented a car from alamo, a 2007 chevy malibu for $360 unlimited miles for 11 days. i own a jeep cherokee that gets 20 mpg, the malibu got 32 mpg. the cherokee would of cost me $900 in gas (it was avg $3 last summer) but the malibu only cost $560 so i saved $340 on gas so essentially renting the car cost only $20. not to mention theres piece of mind driving that far knowing if you break down someone (alamo) is there to help, but if you break down in your car nobodys there plus youre not putting thousands of miles on your own vehicle, just something to think about.

And if I fly what airport would it be too, and do I need a car once i arrive at AGI?

Glass Pyro
06-24-2008, 12:42 AM
I don't need a car and I think it said pittsburgh international. Is there a cab I could take from the airport? And also a cab service to take me to the hotel and back to AGI everyday?

newmexicomagma
06-24-2008, 01:52 AM
you can take a cab but it will cost you. depending on what time you arrive you might be able to catch a shuttle. and you wouldnt need a cab from the hotel as it will be full of other agi members. and as a newb it is def worth going to cause that means everything you see will be new so every thing will be a learning experience. i still dont know if im gonna go but its not looking like it as of yet.

Hey Pyro,
Check the air fairs to New York, it's probably cheaper then flying into Pittsburgh.

If you fly into Laguardia or JFK on Sunday morning I'll pick you up and you can take the ride with me. It's about 5 1/2 hours from the airports and I'll drop you off on the following sunday on my way home.

Hi everybody.

Brian, I was confused by this answer to newbie Glass Pyro - (you can take a cab but it will cost you. depending on what time you arrive you might be able to catch a shuttle.

Is there a shuttle between the Pittsburgh airport and Hilliards? If so, is something that has to be arranged for in advance?

Doni and I stayed at the Fairfield Inn at Butler. Very nice, normal hotel.

Wonka, what is the cab situation in Butler? Do they have them?

Thanks.
